Tengu Sushi - Newport

Wow, I am shocked to see that this restaurant gets anything higher than the one star. God Bless them!!! I had a miserable and horrible lunch here today. I ordered miso soup, which is a normal easy thing to make. It tasted like dirty water from the sink. When I ordered sashimi, which was a bad idea, that 's raw fish. I questioned my decision. And I wonder if I will get sick? The food was absolutely abominable. I would never go back. The service was even worse. The guy was sitting down eating lunch the whole time. There was only one other lady in the restaurant and she said to him, Oh I 'm sorry to disturb you from your lunch . OMG!!! Since when have we become that woke? He was the only waiter there, and he didn 't really know what he was doing. He didn 't speak any English only Japanese, which is no problem that parts fine, but the fact that he didn 't even know how to help you order your food or understand the menu or speak any language at all to try to help you on top of the most awful food I 've ever had!!! This is a very honest review the biggest regret is the $20.68 that I will never get back.

Absolutely loved this unpretentious little sushi house. We tried 5 different rolls and 4 were 5 stars one was great at 4 stars. Highly recommend the Newport roll and the Brooklyn roll. A small little sushi place in Newport! Our ninja sushi was pretty good, it has a really good sauce. All of the food is made to order and our waiter was very very friendly!

I've been wanting to try Tengu for at least a year and finally had the opportunity. Since it was a take away order I made the enormous mistake of forgetting to request absolutely NO mayo/sauces on top of the one roll I requested. Sure enough, there was a mayo-type of thick sauce, possibly some sort of Sriracha hot sauce on top, as well as a teriyaki kind of sauce. The orange Sriracha hot sauce on top was ALL I could taste. I am incredibly sensitive to any kind of hot sauce and pepper, so tasting only the hot sauce does not surprise me. Other people can enjoy it like my husband, and he could drink Sriracha straight from the bottle but not me! Since I believe this order is 50% my fault , I want to give them another try. I was however shocked at the $7.50 for two pieces of nigiri which is $3.00 more than other places. I ordered a Newport Roll. on the menu, there is NO MENTION of sauces ON the Newport Roll. I wish I could have tasted all the ingredients.
