Vinho & Tretas - Vila Real

We went there for lunch after visiting Casa de Mateus. We had to change our reservation time short notice due to a car race that blocked the access to Mateus. Had a very pleasant experience, as changing the arrival time was no problem. Liliana- I believe the owner- was very friendly and helpful from the very start. Before we ordered she explained to us all the dishes, offering suggestions about the traditional ones. She was very knowledgeable also about the wine that they sell in the souvenir shop on the ground floor of the restaurant. We ate outside, but the upstairs inside was very inviting as well. All starters we tried- and we tried quite a few, were excellent and so were all dishes. Overall a great experience! Thank you, Liliana!

When tasting wine at the casa de mateus (you should do that), we asked where to go for lunch, and were advised to just cross the road, and go to this small restaurant (first floor). We had excellent food (the steak was excellent, the alheira was a discovery, a very pleasant surprise), and the wine matched it perfectly. We usually don't take desserts, but decided to try the cheese, good decision. Service is in Portuguese, French, English (no Dutch, but we didn't try german), and equally friendly and professional in all these languages. The price is,correct, it was even a bit cheaper than we expected, it's a pity we can't go back...

Economical, good service well prepared food and a nice atmosphere. What more could you want out of lunch?

Everything here is tasteful; the food, the wine and the decoration. The owner is a very zen looking man, guiding you in your choice of food, wine to your taste and even visitation recommendations. We passed a very pleasant hour there.

My husband and I visited for lunch. It was a wonderful atmosphere and the food was awesome. We shared the roasted pork for 2 and it was the most tender pork I have ever tasted. So tender we could have eaten it with a spoon. The server was very friendly and knowledgeable.
