I had hired a private Italian guide to take us around Erice where we had a cooking lesson at Pasticeria Maria Grammatico (separate review) and we asked the guide, Sicilian born, what is her favorite place for cannoli, that unique Sicilian pastry that everybody loves. She took us to Bar Erice in Napola, a completely unremarkable small bar, where the cannoli were bigger than we have ever seen and the ricotta filling: sweeter than we could imagine, delicious. Prices-very affordable.
Went here for lunch. Was disappointed by the food as well as the service. The waitress who served us was rude and impatient. Not knowing what to order she seemed annoyed we didn't know straight away and decided to chat to her colleague about us. She stood there with her hands on her hips waiting even though the shop was dead. The food itself was average. We had two mini pizzas and an aranchini ragu all of which were reheated in a microwave to a luke warm temperature. Overall was disappointed so didn't stay for desert and wouldn't rush back.
The coffee is outstanding and the dolce are exquisite! My wife and I have traveled through Sicily on a number of occasions and each time we make sure we spend enough time close to Bar Erice so we have have our fix of the beautiful cannolli and coffee. The only down side is the withdrawal symptoms for weeks after. We will be back!
I went to the cannole. between that of dattilo and this I prefer this of the erice bar. I like how the ricotta cream works, meets my gooses!
