My wife and I went there for a late afternoon bite to eat before heading downtown to join the Canada Day celebrations with its firework and other fun-filled activities. We ordered Classic Hot Wings and Salt & Pepper Dry Ribs...Well, once I saw what they served us, the fun was gone... 13 tiny ribs (2 of them had literally no meat on them) and yes, SEVEN (!!!) mediocre wings, at a price of $12.02 and $12.86, respectively, tax included (on a per piece price basis this translates to $0.92 and $1.84 each!!!). CAN YOU BELIEVE IT??!!I almost went through the roof, but my wife begged me not to make a scene and ruin the Canada Day for her, a day that up to this point had gone rather well. So I swallowed my anger as much as I could, instead of confronting the staff (and by that I mean the nerd in the kitchen who was responsible for "loading up" our plates with next to nothing on it, as well as the person in charge of this rip-off place).I should have just walked out, leaving that their “offerings” untouched. But our hunger pain was such that we felt compelled to visit the A&W Restaurant next door, so we could kill it with a couple of Teen Burgers, some O-Rings and fries. How does this Hwy 10 & 152 Street Browns Socialhouse outfit justify offering considerably larger portions of Ribs and Wings during weekdays at a Happy Hour" price of $7.35 (with tax) compared to what they charged us that Saturday just after 4 p.m.? This place is nothing but a rip-off!!!
We went with another couple and she recommended the fish tacos, they were tremendous! Large portion of fish with finely chopped coleslaw and a hint of heat. So delicious!
We came here for just desserts. There are 3 to choose from - key lime pie, chocolate brownie and Oreo jar. We had the first two. Just the right amount of tartness on the key lime with a light mousse filling and coconut crust. A bigger slice would be even yummier. The brownie was a decent size. It was topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, drizzled with a sweet caramel with bits of chocolate chips. For me, the brownie was a bit dry and overall, sweetness was rated 8. (10 being too sweet). Our server was friendly and was willing to split our desserts in half. Will be back to make an attempt at the food menu.
I enjoy the cod bowl at Brown's Social House. I was a little disappointed with my lunch this time. I appreciate that it is easy to overcook fish, and unfortunately this time it was overcooked. I'll order my favourite meal again, but will ask that the cod be undercooked rather than overcooked.
