This is our "first night in San Felipe" restaurant every year. The margaritas are tasty, the bean soup is great (especially if you add onions and cilantro), and the grilled meats are good. The guys usually get steaks, but I prefer the half-chicken grilled over a wood fire. This is one of the best restaurants in town.
El Nido's has consistently good food. My husband and I shared a filet mignon dinner with soup and salad this last week. The steak was wrapped in bacon and wood broiled right in the dinning room. The bean soup I find bland but added some salsa and it was tasty. Good crisp salad and lots of it - did I mention the complimentary chips and salsa (the one I used in the soup) . The margaritas are excellent as is the service. A large group was already seated with lots of orders in front of us but with only two servers we still had no problem ordering or receiving our food. Please order the flan - the best on the peninsula.
Went for an early dinner to celebrate my friend's birthday. We were greeted at the door by the owner and given a little history of the restaurant. The first thing I noticed was a brick oven with mesquite burning under the grill. I ordered pork chops and she ordered rib eye steak, and they were soon cooking on the grill. The meal came with bean soup that had chopped onions and cilantro on the side so I added both to the soup, along with some of the delicious salsa. We also had salads with blue cheese. Soon the steak and chops came, along with a baked potato and hand made flour tortillas. The steak was huge and I had two good sized pork chops. My only complaint was the pork chops were a bit over cooked, but the meat all had a wonderful smokey flavor. The only staff was the owner and one server, and they were a little overwhelmed by a large party that came in, but she was still quite attentive and brought fresh tortillas to replace some that had cooled off, and replace a half a glass of wine that a fly decided to use as a swimming pool with a whole one. I would highly recommend this restaurant, and looking forward to trying breakfast and other items on their menu. They are open in the morning for breakfast and again after 2PM for dinner.
This was our favorite nicer restaurant in San Felipe. No longer. The bean soup starter tasted like dishwater. Nobody ate it. The queso fundido was ok, but had sat too long before being served. The main dishes took forever to come out and probably sat under a heat lamp. Also, they hammered each steak beyond belief. I ordered rare and got near jerky carne asada especial. The only decent thing on my plate was the quail. Also, they decided to get cute with the exchange rate. Official exchange was 20:1 everywhere. They said 18:1. Really? There goes your tip. Oh, and they only take cash.
