Bidrage med feedbackMy friends and i went for new years eve for a set menu , with that menu you got a free glass of bubbles , but then as the courses started to come out a little old man who was in charge of the wines started to more more wines which we thought was odd , so i stopped him and said we had only opted for the one glass of fizz and he then didn't look happy with us at all , then we had finished all of our courses and asked for the bill , the cheeky man tried to charge us for the upgraded package with all the other wines,he then came over and seen we were not happy so he then went back to the till to get us the right bill. to everyone that goes there just be aware , the food was really good though.
The food and service were both good, but the inside of the restaurant was cold. We were seated near the outside door, causing us to feel cold throughout the evening and affecting our overall experience.
Great food. Pricy as everything in Iceland (I cannot believe they get away with it), but good service, easy to get in and out, comfortable space and ambiance. Duck falaffel needs special mention, as does the mezze menu.
I came here with my dad for my 31st birthday. My dad is deaf but the staff was super chill and didn 't freeze up like we have so often seen before. The waitress asked me if there was any special occasion, I told her it was my birthday. After that we got seated as normal. The food was extremely good, we were warned against ordering too much this was after being warned about the portions being small and 'sharable ' but it turned out that all the warnings were fairly calibrated, because we both left the restaurant fully satiated and satisfied. The food itself: There 's a cauliflower craze in the Icelandic vegan culinary scene, so I skipped out on that entirely and got the turnip skewer along with a shared dish this turned out to be a fantastic decision. If you 're vegan and tired of the whole cauliflower thing, then definitely go for the skewers, but also go for a secondary thing to share, it won 't disappoint you. Once the meal was over I was surprised with a nice brownie with caramel on top, as a birthday surprise. It was never requested but it was very welcomed, there wasn 't a big scene made of it and it was just the perfect treat to end the night. I can 't fault Sumac for anything, but I have many plusses to give out, the biggest plus goes to the very friendly and extremely attentive waitress. Whoever served our table, Haukur at 18:30 on the 16th of November, you deserve EXTRA compliments, because you made us feel extremely welcome, communicated to us very well, and gave suggestions that suited our needs perfectly. I don 't know your name, but I deeply hope that the staff here is able to recognize the amazing chefs that made our food and the amazing waitress who made our night feel special.
We had high expectations coming to this Michelin recommended restaurant. For starters, we ordered chicken wings and beef tartare. The chicken wings were decent, but the tartare was amazing. For the main course, we ordered lamb ribs and wolf fish. I was disappointed that the lamb was served by itself and the wolf fish came with the spine and bones, which is uncommon in Iceland and made it difficult to enjoy. When I mentioned this to the waitress, she did not do anything to rectify the situation. The dessert experience was also disappointing as we initially received the wrong order. Overall, we found the restaurant to be overrated, overpriced, and lacking in service. We are unlikely to return.
