Bidrage med feedbackThis restaurant is the only one in Iceland that has its own green room inside the restaurant, located behind the kitchen. They grow their own greens, herbs and edible flowers... This restaurant came highly recommended by local vegan friends. It was really busy but you could also walk past it as not much signage, the entrance kind of looked like an art gallery rather than restaurant entrance, with a funky film in the windows and neon lights. we peeked our head in as it was full of people but couldn't tell what kind of food it was. This was the most wonderful surprise ever! We had the 6 course vegan tasting menu which was perfect for our dinner, a delicious meal. The sunflower and cucumber plate was a nice surprise but the beets were divine, also at the end of the meal we were surprised with some petit four candies that were delicious! The server was very knowledgable and explained the food quite well and the wine pairing was spot on. They also have a very good cocktail bar which has the best beet cocktail (Earthy Kitt I think it was named) Can't rate this place highly enough, a must for vegans, vegetarians, carnivores visiting Reykjavik!
Nostra was the best culinary experience! The servers were amazing and so friendly! We had the 6 course meal that was about $100/person. This is worth the price as everything in Iceland is more on the expensive side. The food was delicious and very fresh. Our waiter gave us great suggestions to go to places and eat. He's a local who lived in the USA because he understood us. They even gave us a tour through their kitchen. Everyone in Iceland has spoken English very well!
Creative and tasty 6 Course Vegan Dinner My husband and I reserved a table at night before we wanted to eat in Nostra, and the restaurant accepted our request for a vegan 6 course tasting menu happy. The restaurant is located right in the heart of downtown Reykjavík on the famous Laugavegur street. It was easy to find and we loved the black spiral staircase leading to the modern dining room of the restaurant. The high ceilings and floor to ceiling windows makes the place seem large, but not overwhelming. The staff was very friendly and attentive when we checked in. We decided to go to the lounge to have a cocktail before we sit for dinner. My first cocktail was called Artson Mule. It is blend of ginger, cucumber, vodka and some other ingredients that I cannot remember perfectly mixed together. I usually prefer beer, but this cocktail was so pleasant to my palate that I was looking forward to every sip. I honestly didn't want the drink to end. Before I finished my cocktail, we were told that we could sit at our table when we were ready. Our taste buds were primed for the vegan menu they had set up for us, so we decided to sit for dinner. When we sat down, we noticed small shades in the restaurant. The golden panel around the table, the pink cloth napkins, the large and lush green plants and the hanging lamps that shimmer a variety of colors, made the atmosphere elegant, comfortable and a little playful. Our waiter introduced himself and he was pleased to announce that we were the first vegans to serve them in the restaurant. He said cheerfully that the chefs had prepared something delicious and unique for the 6-speed menu. Before we jump into what we ate, it is important to me to notice that the waiter stressed that the aim of the chefs is to use as much of the whole vegetables as possible. This was obvious while we eat and we appreciate the creativity that went into minimizing waste. After ordering my second cocktail, Blue Suede shoes a very refreshing concoction of blueberry, lemon, vodka and herbs came our first course. Technically, it was a bonus course that the kitchen wanted us to try. Below are the 6 courses (7 with the bonus) we ate. Bonus course bouquet of fresh herbs and beet in vinaigrette 1st course Cucumber Walnut pure 2nd course tomatoes 4 ways 3. course onion 3 ways so delicious our favorite! 4th Course Celeriac 3 Ways 5th Course Parsnip 3 Ways Palate Cleanser Lemon Thymian Sorbet with filled barley Dessert Strawberry 4 Ways We have enjoyed our culinary experience in Nostra and highly recommend them.
Wonderful food that felt balanced and unique everywhere! Service and preparation were great and felt quality in every aspect. Michelin-Level Restaurant in my opinion and hope they will get their star soon!
Nostra Restaurant is an experience I will never forget for the rest of my days. First, let me say that walking into this place was just fabulous from the beginning. The staff was welcoming and the place looks great. It's like going into a whole new dimension where nothing in the world is wrong, where everything is perfect. As I mentioned in my reviews, I'm not a big fan of boatloads from money to everything. But every dollar I spent in this place is what my trip to Iceland was worth. I'm not kidding. The seat was comfortable and the service professional. Incredible drinks, wine selection and an 8-course menu that never seemed to end! Just fantastic. I came from the United States and traveled many in cities like Chicago, LA and NYC. I've never had such an amazing restaurant experience from the beginning to the end. The meat was perfectly cooked. I don't even know what the vegetables were. The sauces! It's like nothing else on the planet. Five stars! I'd give ten if I could! Bravo!
