Great farm to table restaurant. Locally owned and the owners are a delight. I highly recommend their breakfast burrito or jungle breakfast dish (with fried eggs. On Sundays they even bring to the table complimentary pastries.

All too often restaurants open and close in a mind numbing circus of great ideas and epic failures. We read the menus and we hear the quiet guarded reviews — we see the rating stars that guide diners to an often poor dining experience framed by a rapidly fading restaurant. Then there are those dining experiences that showcase the meaning of farm to table in an eclectic atmosphere, that is Hawaii, with dishes that are well prepared and showcase the many flavors of the Hawaiian Islands. Pele, the goddess of Hawaii’s volcanos smiled on one restaurant, lending her flame to the grill and scorching her namesake into the sign at a local kitchen, Pele’s Kitchen. The food that is served to the customers is locally sourced from numerous small Hawaiian farms and groves, bringing a sense of community to the small town of Pahoa. The kitchen staff, from the chef to the line to the wait staff are well trained and always friendly to their local customers as well as their visiting customers. Their open arm, friendly interaction, coupled with an excellent local menu, create a dining experience that “is” Hawaii. What a wonderful welcoming atmosphere. As a gluten free person there were plenty of options and suggestions from staff. Every visit brings a new little detail and food experience. I highly recommend it. Dietary restrictions: East to be vegan and Gluten free
