Woodman Estate holds itself up to be a fine dining restaurant. well what is fine dining Fine dining is a restaurant experience that is typically more sophisticated, unique, and expensive than one would find in the average restaurant . Well Woodman is non of that. Very tired and run down. Staff not at all welcoming and we went for High Tea. Very ordinary selection sandwich bread was crisp on outside, sausage roll pastry was still raw and the scones were doughy and not cooked properly. The waitress wouldn 't know fine dining if she fell on it didn 't know which side to put drinks for example just anywhere will do. No effort with regard to crockery old thick white standard crockery. surely you could make an effort with lovely vintage tea pots, cups and saucers. pretty cheap in the op shops if your that desperate ! If you want to charge fine dining prices then you should make sure you offer a fine dining experience. I would definitely NOT recommend this place for High Tea plenty of other options.
We had a 3 night stay at the estate and booked to have all our dinners there. After the 2nd night and very disappointing and expensive meal, we cancelled the 3rd night and opted to head out for dinner in a local eatery.
My husband and i came here for his birthday lunch. We had a 3 course meal and it was just delish. Whilst the lady who greeted us upon arrival seemed a little flustered she was happy and polite and ushered us into the waiting room where the fire was burning nicely. Our waiter came out to get us a few moments later and seated us at our table. He was absolutely lovely. I had put on my booking that i required gluten free options and he along with another waitress kept me informed and let me know that would be taken care of. The meals were so yummy. Though we were very full afterwards, the portions were perfect for 3 courses. The staff were all so lovely and the soft music in the background was easy listening. It was my husbands birthday and they put happy birthday on his dessert place. A very nice touch! There was only 2 other groups there so it was nicely subdued but we would definitely return.
I have visited many restaurants and when I state my food intolerances I generally end up with a piece of meat with no sauce. On our first night at this hotel we had the 7 course degustation menu. It was fantastic well paced and good sized portions so that you were no bursting by the end. All of my meals looked exactly the same as my husbands with slight variances to incorporate my food intolerances. The chef did an amazing job and I was incredibly appreciative and impressed. The second night we had the a la carte menu and again the chef amended my meal accordingly and we had another fantastic meal. Staff were amazing and friendly as was the food. Can't wait to return.
