Village Chalet Family Restaurant

Good food, good portions. Expect to wait though ! Been coming here 3-5 a year every summer for 8 years the service has never changed. It's friendly however extremely slow. But one of only a few family restaurants available in the town

Was in Minden Friday night checking on the Family Cottage and needed a place to eat dinner. Was hoping to go to the Thai Food Restaurant there but when we arrived it is closed for the winter season. They don't have a website so we couldn't check ahead of time. We passed by the Village Chalet on the way so retraced our steps and headed in. The place was super busy when we arrived and the two women taking care of the tables looked exhausted and harried. The couple next to us handed us their menus after a while and the waitress came by and took our order in a fashion. I ordered the Hot Chicken salad with gravy on the fries and Hubby ordered the Meatloaf with fries and gravy. Both orders arrived with no gravy on the fries but the waitress did go back and bring us some after we mentioned it. The food was very good, no complaints there. What dampened the experience was arguing in the kitchen. Raised voices were clearly heard out in the dining room between one of the waitresses and perhaps the cook?/a male. That just doesn't add anything positive to a dinner's atmosphere. We totally understand if a restaurant is busy and we're okay with waiting a little bit. Our waitress was friendly and pleasant. What was heard from the kitchen was not. Be nice to each other people. We all have long hard days.

Small café, nothing fancy, prices were good, good choice of food, staff were helpful and the food was quite good. Had some home baked goodies available.

Board at front of restaurant said lunch special $8.99 fish and chips. We sat down and the waitress asked us if we wanted sole or halibut. We decided on halibut. It was very nice fish, the coleslaw was good, the fries were good too. But what upset us was when we went to pay. Suddenly the bill was $10 more than it should have been. The waitress told us it was because we chose the halibut. We asked why she didnt tell us that the halibut was more and not part of the lunch special. we told her we both wanted the lunch special.She didnt mention it at all and assumed we would know that. Which of course we had no idea. She went on a long spiel about how much more expensive the halibut is and basically blamed us for not knowing. So we paid and left the restaurant very unhappy and felt cheated. that is our experience there

Excellent Food and a most friendly atmosphere you would find in a small town. Great Salads. Clean and very friendly staff. We were pleasantly surprised. The restaurant looks very small from the outside but is very large and rambles on ....Enjoy! Serves ALL Day Breakfast!
