Bidrage med feedbackMy wife and I drove out to Hemingway from Myrtle as we were here from Virginia on winter vacation. The reviews for this restaurant were enough for us to come and try the food and visit the pits to see whole hogs being cooked. We went in and ordered, there was no BBQ so we got ribs and chicken with sides and an extra side of sauce. The ladies in the restaurant were Fantastic, Helpful, and Friendly. We grabbed our food and decided to read the historical plaque near the entrance of the pits. Subsequently, my wife asked if we could take a peek at the pits, The older gentleman in the pit tent with several others reluctantly said, well you want a peek, go ahead. He, nor anyone else came over to show, explain, or ask if we had questions, it was as cold as cold can be. Within a few minutes of walking through the pits (we saw no hogs being cooked) and out the back to see the fire starter barrel, we came back through the pit tent and said thanks. The same gentleman made some other smart comment and we got in our car and left. It was not a welcoming visit at all to the pits as the reviews indicated. Perhaps we caught the B-Team. Yet the food was good but we will probably will not be going back anytime soon. Been there done that. v/r, Dr. K. King
So, I 'm reading an article in Southern Living The South 's Top 50 Barbecue Joints Of 2023 and it lists Scott 's Bar-B-Q as #5. I enjoy BBQ and like to try deferent places and Scott 's is in Hemingway, SC. ROAD TRIP. So, my wife and I we drive from Aiken to try out Scott’s. (A two- and half-hour drive) The setting was as described and that doesn 't bother me. The employees were nice enough. We ordered the three-meat plate that comes with two sides. We got slaw and baked beans. The ribs had very little meat on them. The pulled pork was moist but didn 't have flavor other than a red pepper bite but was not followed by a sweet surge of hardware smoke that lingers on the tongue like described in the article. The chicken was the worst meat on the plate as it was dry and flavorless. The beans could have come out of a can. If they didn 't, they are working too hard to make Bush 's. The slaw was OK, nothing to even write about. This is the first BBQ joint we have tried on this The South 's Top 50 Barbecue Joints Of 2023 and I am now very concerned with going off this writer 's opinion. I can’t recommend this BBQ joint and we won 't be visiting again.
What a wonderful place, with such good bbq even without Rodney! For a detailed review, see john tanners bbq blog and search Scott 's
I have eaten here for years and in my opinion they have the best BBQ in all of South Carolina (and yes, I am a BBQ freak). Their sides aren't all that great, but just get a pound or 2, or 3 of their Q and make your own sides. I go there at least once every month or two... its about 40 mins from where I live... well worth the drive. Never disappointed.
This place is a hole in the wall find. It is like an old country store that has a grill. It looks sketchy for sure but, my word! It is amazing bbq. I got the bbq sandwich and I got plenty of bbq for 2 sandwiches. There is no bun it is all old school white bread. I have not had this kind of bread in so long I forgot I even liked it. It was fresh and soft. The bathroom looks questionable but, I swanee you gotta just have some faith and stop in. The sauce is on point but, the slaw was a little too much mayonnaise for me. Bring cash theres no, credit cards, checks, credit or pawning accepted. Lol they are the real deal and you can see the men folk out there tending to the food. Just amazing ?
