Bidrage med feedbackCall a day before or Sat AM to reserve Paella before driving. They have Jamon Ibirico in the freezer counter.Bocadillo de la Casa sandwich is phenomenal. It was my first time to go today. I did call the day before but was not informed to reserve a Paella order so it was gone by the time I got there after lunch.
I 'm from Spain,as are the wonderful owners, this is the ONLY authentic market in S. California that has TRULY Spanish (not like most other Hispanic markets lump together products from other Hispanic countries which claiming to be Spanish )La Española Meats produces a diverse assortment of AUTHENTIC in-house made NON-spicy Spanish varieties of chorizos/cured sausages which tasteEXACTLYlike the various Spanish regional varietiesThey also are a small market that carries many imported ready to eat traditional items cheeses, paella specific rice varieties, canned seafood, bottles tapas, along with ingredients to enjoy and make many regional dishes.A great selection of regional Spanish wines, etc. SADLY, their paella is unexpectedly ...ATROCIOUS, despite the owners being from Valencia, because it is mushy and bland lacking in authentic flavor . Paella is my favorite dish which I 've enjoyed deliciously prepared countless times in restaurants and ESPECIALLY as the main meal prepared at home or by friends each time I 'm back in Spai The only possible explanation would be that since the staff is predominantly not from Spain, they do their best to reproduce the recipe...which having the Spanish owners on site seems like a lack of quality control .The SPANISH churros (without sugar or cinnamon) are authentic as is the HEAVENLY thick TRUE hot chocolate which is a traditional breakfast item. I actually prefer the delicious Mexican variety with sugar and loads of cinnamon though I 'd have to bring my own ready spice mix .FYI heavenly Spanishhot chocolate(cocoa) is a T-H-I-C-K luxuriously velvety elixir same as the FrenchLe Chocolat Chaud, ItalianCioccolata Calda, and Portuguese Cacau Quente recipes that is made with solid chocolate, whole milk/cream(NEVER water)and a touch of sugar, cornstarch, and often a dash of vanilla. We can the Swiss Miss varieties DIRTY dishwater I 'm droolingnow and so will YOU once you stop by and enjoy a trip to Spain here at La Español
I've been coming to this place for years for Saturday Paella. Saturday Paella is the day that this tiny Spanish shop/deli (the primary business is wholesale distribution to restaurants) serves Paella to the public in large single serving amounts. You should order in advance to ensure what you want is there for you. There are three types of paella offered (house, mixed, seafood), some tapas, and a sandwich. I visited this past Saturday to grab some Paella and a bocadillo (Spanish sandwich) to go. I had not ordered in advance so I called ahead to see if they had availability and could hold items for me. They were kind enough to check and were able to put everything I wanted on hold. The pricing for food is extremely reasonable and I would say inexpensive for what you get. My tab for three paella and two bocadillo, more than enough to feed five, was less than my last tab for five foot longs at Subway (yes, that Subway). And, unlike Subway, there is no skimp on quality or taste. The paella is excellent, comparable to a formal sit down restaurant just not served in the pan. The sandwich is filled w high quality Spanish deli meats and cheese.Although I did to go this time around, I highly recommend eating there at least once on a Saturday. Where else can you get a selection of imported Spanish beers for $2.95? The last Saturday of each month, there is live entertainment.
This is what I love about being in Los Angeles!!!You can find the best places hidden away in the most unique places!!The last Saturday of the month, there is FLAMENCO show from 12-2pm. Lots of good things!!!They have wine, imported olive oil, olives, caviar, candy, sweets meats all imported from Spain!!! You have to get the JAMON . It 's worth it!!!!
