Bidrage med feedbackWe were on a short break in Thirsk in late September and looked for a pub that did food. We walked into the Black Lion and were immediately given a very friendly welcome by the landlord/owner and the locals already in there. We spotted some people with what looked like nice meals at the back so asked if we could have a drink first and then have something to eat. Of course! was the reply. When I mentioned that the lady in our party needed a bright table because of an eye problem, the locals, immediately, without being asked, got up from a brightly lit round table in the window and guided us to it. Our drinks were delivered to the table as soon as we were ready for another round, and then when our meals arrived, the food was lovely. The landlord had put us on a tab when we arrived and when we paid at the end of the evening, the cost was very reasonable. The landlord had even sent someone to the local shop to get orange juice, because they had run out, for one of our drinks. The beer was really nice as well. We were that impressed that we booked for the next night, and when we arrived they had set out the same brightly lit table in the window for us. Very nice thank you. We again had some more rounds of their delicious beers, and then a very nice meal again. All in all a great duo of nights. We will return to Thirsk and will definitely visit the Black Lion again.
Very friendly, food and drink excellent . The seafood platter which we shared included 9 different items I highly 8
The food was good, but the premises were not good at all. There was a bad smell, like urine and dogs. My wife said the toilets had no hand drying facilities and there were large poo stains on the porcelain. We hoped for a quiet meal, but the other clientele were swearing very loudly, even with children in near proximity. Even the kitchen porter lady was joining in, most unprofessional. I fear we will not visit again, it's just not our scene.
Wow! What an amazing pub. Really friendly staff. Great beer. Dog friendly and food was delicious. First impression was perhaps the food was a little on the expensive side but oh my gosh. When it arrived it was worth every penny. We’ll done guys. We will definitely be back. Places like this are hard to find.
Booked in for Sunday lunch at 12.30 for four of us, drinks were served promptly and order taken. Approximately 1 hour later lunch was served, topped with an extremely burnt Yorkshire pud. No idea why it took so long as it was just mash, small overcooked roast potatoes, veg and precooked beef. We asked the waiter if it was possible to have the Yorkshires exchanged for ones that were not burnt, he returned with a tray of less burnt ones saying that’s all there was. On further investigation the Yorkshires were frozen on the bottom, a feat in itself to serve burnt Yorkshires that were still frozen, we were told that they would deduct one meal from the bill for the inconvenience. Will not be returning.
