I was delighted to discover they made all their desserts in-house. The pavlova with fresh berry compote was delicious. The gal at the bar also made amazing cocktails, including my chocolate-cherry martini. I sat at the bar but the dining room looked very elegant with white table cloths.
Was way overpriced for the quality of the food. Definitely not interested in going here again. There was five of us, two had the duck, others had the sablefish (black cod , a pork chop and a salad with a slab of halibut. I was one with the duck and it was not even a whole half breast, it was the size of a half of a half breast. Cooked nicely, but with little flavor. The black forbidden rices was inedible, well it was swallowable, but not chewable. Poorly undercooked. Everything else except the sablefish based on other's after dinner comments was meh. Service was ok, not very attentive, and 18% gratuity was included (for five? . Those who got cocktails said tasty but no buzz. Poor wine by the glass selection but lots of bottle. Oh well. As always nothing more irritating to me than coming away from a place that's $50-60 per person and with nothing but regrets. My recommendation is don't bother with this place you'll be happier spending less money elsewhere. Live and learn.
We had eaten at the Homestead Restaurant 4 years ago and had an outstanding memory of excellent food and good service. we were somewhat hesitant to try it again, because memories can be so fickle, But we went and the food was as excellent as we remembered and the service was prompt and attentive. there were 4 of us in the party and 3 had the special scallops while i had the silver salmon (also one of the specials of the day). All were excellent and only manners kept one of our party from licking his plate. for dessert we shared the creme brulle and the pavlova. both were well presented and a sublime finish the meal.
We were exploring out the East end road and my husband needed to stop to use the restroom. We totally wandered into this place by chance. We had some coffee at the bar and chatted with the bartender and hostess super nice people. They said they would be opening for dinner in a bit. We went on down East end road and when our wanderlust was satisfied we returned to The Homestead for dinner. This is a fine dining place with outstanding food and wine without all the pretentiousness that can come with that experience. They sat a table near the window for us. It's casual fine dining. I had a halibut dish and my husband had another fish dish (don't recall what it was). Both were amazing. Fantastic fresh flavor. Waitress was great as we're all the staff. You would NEVER guess looking at this place from the outside that you would have the fantastic fine dining experience inside. You can tell the locals come here and that says something. Forget all the tourist **** on the spit and head a bit out of town to enjoy this local place. Easily one of my best meals. I loved it and can't wait to go back next summer!
