Bidrage med feedbackThe yum cha at this restaurant is quite good with a wide variety of dishes. The food is tasty and we arrived right at 10:30, but the door was forgotten to be opened for us as we seemed to be the first customers. One small issue is that the dumplings are a bit overcooked, making them hard to pick up in one piece. Other than that, everything was as expected. We will definitely be returning in the future.
I have visited the Scholar a few times in the past, but this was my first visit in 3 or 4 years. I have always enjoyed their yum cha in the past. This time, I dined in and found the service to be good. As for the food and drinks, red wine is not my preference, but the lobster dumplings were excellent! They were hot, crispy, and filled with delicious crustacean (possibly a mix of lobster and other seafood). The Szechuan lamb was okay, and the boneless duck with orange was very good. It had a nice balance of sweetness and tartness from the orange. The restaurant was not very crowded when we visited, but it definitely deserves more customers. The decor could use a makeover, but the food is definitely worth trying.
I was very pleasantly surprised by the yum cha at this restaurant while visiting from Sydney today. I would say it is even better than many restaurants in Sydney. The produce was very fresh as well.
Enjoy juicy prawn and chive dumplings, a super smooth congee (it would be good if this came with pickled veggies or a Kim chi) and lightly fried turnip cake. The Scholar is a good place for yum cha in Canberra. crispy (and slightly) sweet sesame balls, like a fried mochi ball, are a nice end with a hot tea. Worth a visit
On the weekends, the walk around with dim sum carts and a menu is also available. They have fresh seafood and lots of options. Worth a try, best so far Canberra!
