The food at this restaurant was reasonably priced, but unfortunately it was cold when it arrived. The plates of food were placed on heat plates, but the waiter took 10 minutes wrapping knives and forks together before bringing it out. As a result, all the food was only mildly warm and the beans were cold. It was frustrating to see the waiter spending time wrapping cutlery while our meals were getting cold.
I recently returned from a wonderful two days in Cork, where the people are incredibly friendly and hospitable. Unfortunately, this particular establishment was a letdown. On Friday night, myself and two male friends in our late 40s/early 50s were denied entry by the doorman, who claimed they were too busy and understaffed. However, he had just allowed a group of ladies to enter before us. We decided to leave without saying anything and went to another venue. The next night, the same thing happened - a group of five ladies walked in ahead of us without any issue, but we were once again turned away due to being too busy and understaffed. As we walked away, we could see plenty of empty space inside with many couples and ladies present. The door staff provided dreadful service. I believe the management should review their admission policy to determine if this is an isolated incident with the doorman or a larger issue at a higher level. It's a shame they are turning away potential customers. I may return to Cork later in the year, but I will not be returning to this establishment out of principle.
Came here two days in a row whilst in cork for a quick bite and breakfast. Chips were shockingly undercooked both times. The breakfast was poor as well. Beans were cold, the black pudding resembled haggis more than black pudding and eggs were somehow burnt yet still undercooked. This was new years day we all came in had multiple drinks and food and were all quiet customers. One of our party fell asleep and one of the members of staff came and told us that they couldn’t sleep. Whilst annoying we accepted it was fair and they stayed awake. About 15 minutes later the same staff member directly approached us and told us we can’t sleep (none of us were sleeping) and then proceeded to tell one of our party that they had been asleep for 2 hours. They hadn’t we had only been there an hour and a half. Generally unpleasant experience. Very poor for a Wetherspoons. Avoid, especially when there are much better and more accommodating pubs round the corner.
Called here for breakfast on a weekend trip to Cork. First impression was it smells. Both coffee machines were out of service but that was easily navigated. I ordered two slices of toast which came out as one slice of toast. I challenged this the staff and was told it normally comes out cut in half to make two make two slices. When I stopped laughing at the logic of this which was being made in all seriousness I explained some simple mathematics that one slice cut in two makes two halves and not two whole slices. I call this a rip off and a con. After arguing a point I was eventually given what I paid for. Wetherspoon drops to a new low.
