Bidrage med feedbackAra is located in a detached building in a shopping center parking lot, a very large, simply furnished restaurant with high ceilings and tables amply spaced apart. Modern Greek decor. The cook here offers a slightly different twist on traditional Greek cuisine. I've been eating in Greek restaurants for 40 years and I'm always looking forward to a glass of retsina with my meal. I was surprised to find that there was no retsina wine on the menu and I'm tied up why they don't offer it. That was the first Greek restaurant I've ever been, not offering Retsina. Instead I ordered Vidiano Greek white wine, dry, slightly sweet and very satisfying. I also love a Horiatiki salad. But I was put off by grilled onions instead of raw onions. I have eaten many versions of Horiatiki salad. But grilled onions should be on a hamburger, not a raw vegetable Greek salad. I didn't order it. Excellent bread with olive oil appeared immediately. The Avgolemono soup was also not traditional, but clearly homemade and different from the typical version. Not much rice and not creamy. But it was very good. The Gyro plate was also a surprise: it was deconstructed. A huge portion of meat, grilled pita bread cut into small triangles, sour cream, plenty of salad and tomatoes dressed salad, and a side of gigantic white beans garnished in tomato sauce, with feta. The parts were huge. I took half of my meal home, service was friendly and attentive until the last 20 minutes at the end of the meal. The waiter disappeared. A woman from an adjacent table finally came up and looked for our waiter to get our cheques. He appeared a few minutes later. I'm a traditional guy. To be fair, Ara's menu offers a number of other tempting decisions. But I always prefer simple classic Greek cuisine and wine. Changes are good when it is an improvement. Otherwise I prefer to wear well prepared classics.
Excellent food, just excellent. Octopus is excellent, I have no better in Greece. Good menu selection overall with many different options. I also notice the good tea options. Ara offers outdoor seating in good weather. Definitely worth the visit, even if out of the way.
Very nice. Good, clean atmosphere. Our waiter was helpful to choose keto dishes. The food was well prepared, with generous ducks. We have the mixed grill with cauliflower and brocolli. Our appetizer, the mixed grilled veggies, was a little small for the $12 price tag, but yummy. Altogether slightly expensive with an appetizer and drinks. We'd be happy to come back.
How often can you enter another country from a dry stripe mall? Because that happens when you go to the Greek restaurant Ara. The interior is alive with blue walls and decorative touches everywhere. Rope is wrapped around many artefacts so you feel like you are on the islands of Greece. The food is fresh and appealing. A friend and I had lunch and were very happy with our decisions. My salad of vegetables and cereals was bright, colourful, delicious. My Spanakopita was excellent! The dish of pasta with vegetables was delicious. Ara has a special lunch for a reasonable price that we will have next. Unfortunately we were too full for Dessert, but her coffee was excellent. Try this! They won't be disappointed.
A great restaurant that I think is overlooked in Commack. The food was so good and the service was impressive. We went for their bottomless brunch and it did not disappoint. The drinks were delicious and the food was even better. Everyone of us finished everything on their plate with rave reviews. I had the egg stuffed spanikopita that was good! I know this place was packed when it first opened but I was sad to see only a handful of guests for brunch. I'd have to see this little gem close. Give it a shot, you will not be disappointed!
