In town again for a family affair. 9 of us went out to La Source for dinner. The service was good considering it was a busy Friday evening with a lot of diners. One had ribs which he described as being excellent. Two had a...seafood casserole and both proclaimed it as being really good. The portion was large as well. One had the filet mignonette special which he devoured with great gusto. 3 others had chicken and none left any on their plate. My partner had a wonderful feed of deep fried scallops (which I gladly sampled) and I had what seemed to be a humongous feed of deep fried whole belly clams served with more fries than I could possible eat. All came with a Huge roll and plenty of butter. Another good meal at La Source.
Atmosphere is fun, small town, find out a bit about the locals. The food is unimpressive. OK chicken and lumpy, cold mash. Fried clams (all batter which was good) but minimal clams. Salad is your standard iceberg lettuce. No dressing choice just bottled French. Find...somewhere else.
Scallop dinner consisted of 5 smallish scallops, each the size of a Canadian or American quarter. Two scoops of mashed potato, a small cup containing iceberg lettuce and diced tomatoes drenched with dressing. $18.00+HST+tip= $24.00. Suggestion: to diners: when the dinner (inevitably) does not fill...you, go the rest of the way with good dinner rolls supplied by restaurant. Service was slow on a Saturday at dinner time even though there were only three other diners. Meals did not come out together. Had to ask for more water. All that said, we're glad the restaurant still exists. Have been coming for years. Advice to owner: provide good value and your place will be packed to the rafters on Saturday during high season at dinner time. Then again......maybe this restaurant does not want lots of customers.
This restaurant has been in business for 41 years. I had the fried clams. They were certainly plentiful and really great tasting and accompanied with some really great fries. My partner opted for the hot chicken sandwich. The chicken was cut from an in house...roasted chicken. She described the gravy as rich and thick. We enjoyed a glass of their on tap beer with our meal. The service was very efficient a d friendly, even with a large table of 20 or so people being served at the same time. The price was very reasonable. Nice to see a local restaurant still being operated by the original owner. I don 't get to the area often, but I like La Source when I do get there.
