Bidrage med feedbackLet me premise my review by saying that I’ve dined in numerous Ethiopian restaurants. Some considered “the best.” As my wife and I sat down at the street side table the owner came out to greet us. We struck up a conversation and he boldly stated that at Tsehay we would have the absolute best Ethiopian meal we’ve ever had. Well initially we were sceptical.And then, the meal arrived. First. Instead of the main dishes positioned on the injera on the tray, the server scooped generous portions of vegetable and meat portions out of the clay pots individually, thus serving them as fresh as possible. Then, the fireworks started. Actually, the meal at Tsehay was absolutely the BEST Ethiopian meal we’ve EVER had.The fresh veggies were scrumptiously seasoned with just the right amount of spices. The quality oil used was light and moderately used. The Lamb was soft, tender and had just the right amount of flavour. Touch of rosemary was brilliant.If you want to experience amazing Ethiopian meal, there is no other restaurant in the DC area that comes close. If I could give it 10 stars, I would.
We LOVED this restaurant, and we have a carnivore, a vegetarian and a vegan in our family group. All the food was delicious; happy, inclusive vibe and attentive service. We had a great time—the vegan sampler is an excellent place to start. Lamb stew was also reported delicious.
The best Ethiopian cuisine I’ve ever had. Amazing flavors, fresh and sooo delishious. My favorite spot in DC now.
I loved this place when it was on Georgia Ave, but after two tries at the new location (under new management I imagine , I won’t be back.The service was terrible. I waited 30 minutes to have my order taken, then another 30 for my friends glass of wine, and my beverage never came, but then showed up on the bill. They overcharged and pricing isn’t explicit (every plate comes with injera, but they’ll bring out another basket without asking charge you $5 for it in addition to the entree? The server we had was very forgetful had too many tables. He also simply did not know what gluten free meant (we have an allergy .The quality of the food unfortunately has diminished since their reopening. Still decent, but portions are MUCH smaller, and just not anything to write home about with so many other great options around.
Tasty food with authentic spices, though seemed altered to fit the American palate. Injera texture was good, but also tailored to Western taste.
