Bidrage med feedbackI arranged to meet a friend at Gabriels after not going for a long period of time and noticing on their website they were open until 4pm. I went inside to order asked for a menu and was told they don't do menus as only serve drinks and cakes. I asked if they had a drinks menu they said no but serve everything. I was about to order but was told to go outside and sit down and someone would come to take my order which seemed a waste of time as I was standing there! My friend arrived and all was well until about 3.15 when the manager/proprietor came out and told us they were closing, we pointed out the sign near the door which said closing time was 4pm which was also on their website. She told us they were a small business so when its quiet they shut earlier, she was very abrupt and quite rude in her attitude. If a shop or advertises its opening hours it doesn't shut early so why does a cafe? It has definatly given me a negative opinion of Gabriels.
We thought we would get lunch at Gabriel 's, we picked a table outside and my wife popped in to use the ladies, She came out rather disappointed at the state of the toilets. We requested a menu and picked our choices, when the waitress took our order we mentioned my wife 's nut allergy, the waitress disappeared inside with our order saying she would just check. A lady, who we presume is the proprietor came out and told us in an abrupt manner,, 'we don 't serve people with nut allergies 'and basically told us to leave!. We were very disappointed that a cafe that promotes itself the way it does, has no alternative for nut allergy sufferers. We were very surprised to see the trip advisor rating, especially with the attitude shown to us. I certainly will not be recommending Gabriel 's, in fact I recommend people avoid it!.
Recommended to visit by a friendly lock-keeper at the canal carpark. We were not disappointed. The service was efficient and friendly. The potted scone was an experience. Never seen this before on a menu, but pleased I tried it. Delicious. Always look for a 'coffee house ' or similar rather than a 'cafe ' and this was worth the visit. Bought the lock-keeper a cake as a thank you and he was very surprised and happy with the gesture.
Popped in for a late lunch this Saturday, from the road side it looks like a small takeaway but it has plenty of space and a wide menu, Beth’s a sucker for Nachos and these were some of the best with generous helpings of 3 separate dips as well as a decent covering of cheese and chilli. I went for one of the specials, veggie lasagna with garlic bread. Again a decent portion and delicious.
We are in Sowerby Bridge on a weekend break. We sat had coffee cake in the sunshine today at Gabriel's. My partner had a slice of carrot cake. I had a potted fruit scone, with butter jam. cream, Delicious, warm out of the oven ,all made for you fresh.
