Bidrage med feedbackI've been going to THE THISTLE for about 30 years and despite having competitor's fish chips from across the natiion and even in the U.K. I have never found a better HALIBUT CHIPS it is to die for, it is that good. I call their halibut, white steak, so flavourful, so delicious and the best chips, ever, no kidding. I only wish I lived nearby so I could go every day, or at least once a week. You won't be disappointed.
People who come here all 90% seniors.. one table had a senior with adult child!! We all love old British and Scottish food.. and the food here is great; very delicious..... but service very disorganized... head waitress says I will sit you down and disappears, waiter does not appear, assistant cleaning boy takes order but does not bring water.. and no one comes back to see if you want more water or sauce..but waiter comes at end with bill; and next table bill was never entered and after they finished eating head waitress had to come over and re figure out whole bill, luckily they were 3 senior couples in no rush!! Food steak and kidney pie delicious.. fish and chips great, and blood pudding and haggis yummy!. BUT Bathrooms so gross.. not cleaned .. and so decrepit. Yuck. Don't go there. Prices.. kind of pricey especially for overall atmosphere and service. This restaurant is living on reputation and older generation that loves this food. in 20 years OR less they will not exist. .. and they are planning to scrape by until then?? without proper service (organization and training) and cleanliness and fresh up of whole restaurant. ??? Us old folks better not die for a long time.. but personally great food or not I can ONLY cope going here ONCE per year. They have a great dessert tray.. many options.. if that is your love.. and it is with many seniors too! I am diabetic.. thought lol I ate their eclairs and they were divine.
Looking for somewhere to eat where we had not been in a while and we were craving fish and chips. Checked the hours online and said open until 6pm on a Saturday. We were excited and drove almost 45 minutes to find a note on the door saying dining in closing ar 4. We were there at 4:15. When I asked the lady at the counter, she was rude and told us 6pm is for take out only. And dining is closed. Well, that's not what their website said. We ended up ordering take out. Almost $60 of food that was soggy and not good. The lady at the takeout area was also rude. Asked if we wanted condiments. I asked for lots of tarter sauce and 2 packs of malt vinegar. I was told I was only allowed to have three tiny packets of tarter sauce for each of our three orders. I told her three was not enough as we like tarter sauce. I had to pay extra for more. This was so very disappointing. How much really do these tiny packets cost?? I'm not selling them!!! I'm enjoying them with the food I bought from you. The food for takeout was cold, soggy and not good. The fries seemed old and just reheated to give to us. Very dissatisfied. We used to come here often and even would reccomend to others. Trying to support local small restaurants. Never again and wont be back. Not worth the money and poor service
Ordered haddock and fries. The fish was good, the fries was trash, meaning it was only okay to be trashed…. In the garbage. Incomprehensible- I don’t think they made fresh fries for several days and decided to just warm up the very hard dried up wrinkled old fries and packed it up with the crispy fried fish. If the fries were free I definitely would not complain, However; the fries cost almost five dollars extra. Very disappointed. I did not feel like they valued me as a customer. I won’t be back. There are actually better FISH and CHIPS in Burlington.
The food is very good and the restaurant people are always so friendly and helpful. The food portions are more then enough and hot when served The chowder is delicious would recommend this restaurant always Have not dined in as yet but the past year have had take out .
