I wish I could leave 5 stars but happycow will only allow that for fully vegan establishments. As a family of 4 on holiday we were very happy to find this shop and cafe. There were a few vegan options so we had a bit of everything and shared. Lovely wholesome, warming food on a rainy day and the staff were very nice, welcoming and helpful. We would love to come back next time we are in the area. The shop was well stocked too.
This charming café and shop is tucked away on a short track in the beautiful village of Hallbankgate. Despite being a small village store, it boasts an impressive selection of products, especially for vegan options, including a variety of chocolates, dairy-free yogurts, spreads, cakes, and much more. The café also features a delightful array of baked goods. On my last visit, I enjoyed some delicious vegan berry treats. The staff, primarily volunteers, are exceptionally friendly and helpful. There's ample parking available in the village, and the café offers both indoor and outdoor seating. It's a fantastic spot for cyclists, with plenty of space to leave your bike.
Hallbankgate is a quaint, old-school establishment that evokes a sense of a bygone era. They offer a good selection of vegan options, primarily platters, as well as a chili and vegan sausage sandwich. We tried the hummus, avocado platter, and chili—each dish was delicious and healthy, accompanied by a side salad. This charming café is definitely a tasty stop for travelers heading north or south on the M6. They have a well-stocked salad bar, kitchen cabinet items, and delightful foods like fries and sticky treats.
There is a great selection of vegan cakes and coffee here. Unfortunately, we visited on a Sunday, which is the only day they don't serve hot food. I'm sure their warm dishes are just as delightful!
