Wow, this is a gem. We got the Labne with Olives (pictured) which was a very, very generous amount, the Lebanese Poutine, absolutely delicious, and the Half Cauliflower Half Brussels and I am not exaggerating when I say these was the best brussel sprouts I've ever had in my life. I would eat that once a week if I could. Literally the top best flavors I've had at a Mediterranean restaurant. And all of these appetizers were enough for 3-4 people. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is so adorable and there were even a few books that kept my toddler entertained the whole time. 5/5 stars. Highly recommend. Do not sleep on this place.Kid-friendliness: This is not a kid-centric restaurant, but there were kid books available under the water station and there are a few kid-friendly menu choices.
Very good Lebanese food. It took awhile to prepare but it was very fresh and worth the wait. Outdoor seating isn’t great as it overlooks the parking lot and a busy road, but we appreciated the option. Indoors looked quieter.
A group of about eight of us had an informal dinner meeting at Gypsy Queen, in a small strip center on Patton Avenu. Overall, it is a charming little spot at one time the original home of Nona Mia pizza, but nicely redone with art and photos on the walls with friendly service, pretty good Middle Eastern food, a small selection of Middle Eastern groceries for sale and a lot of energy. Be aware that the noise level here inside when it 's busy is HIGH. It may well be the loudest spot in Asheville. So don 't try to hold a conversation here, much less a meeting, as least not during busy periods. If the weather 's good, sit outside on the small patio with flowers and shrubs, and you can talk. Also, note that some of the food may not be exactly what you expect in a Middle Eastern/Mediterranean place. For the example, the falafel a large wrap is $10, and a platter with pita bread, hummus, baba ganoush and pickled turnips, $14 is what many call green falafel. It is a style popular in Lebanon, Palestine and a few other places in the Middle East. The falafel patties get their intense green color inside from the parsley and often mint or cilantro , then fried crisp and dark on the outside, served on a platter or in a wrap with tarator tahini sauce, pickled turnips, beets and some spices such as cumin, garlic and coriander. The version at Gypsy Queen doesn 't have tomatoes or lettuce and the wrap is served cold except for a slightly three slightly warm falafel patties. I thought it could have used a lot more sauce and maybe some cucumbers, onions or tomatoes. The Lebanese Fries $6 for a small order, but enough for two, $10 for a large is a kind of take on Middle Eastern poutine. Our fries were a little soggy, but the tarator sauce and parsley topping were good. One in our party enjoyed the lamb kibbie platter $17, I think and most everyone thought their food was enjoyable, if a little more expensive than you 'd expect. The meal for my wife and me was around $50 for a sampler platter, a falafel wrap, a small Lebanese fries and two canned beers a Wicked Weed Pernicious and an Athletic non-alcoholic beer and tax but not including tip. We were also a little surprised by the suggestion when you order that we tip either 20, 25 or 30%, when you have to order the food at the counter, get your own water or canned drink beer, sodas and bus your own table after the meal. The food is brought promptly to your table bay a staffer. Owner Suzy Phillips was a pioneer in the food truck business in Asheville in the early 2000s, and the restaurant and small market that she re-opened in early 2023 after a renovation has become quite popular. We 'd go back again at an off-peak time and would try some different dishes.
Where do I begin... colorful, flavorful, exciting, vibrant, delicious spread. We hired Gypsy Queen to cater our wedding and could not be happier!! Everyone raved about the food! Just a beautiful experience. I would rate 5 stars the moon if I could. Much love to you Gypsy Queen, thank you for brining so much nourishment and abundance to our wedding.
