What a treat! We had very high expectations and Birkinshaw's went above and beyond. We thoroughly enjoyed the Lady Clara Afternoon Tea. It was beautifully presented and every bite was flavourful and carefully crafted. It is a full meal and some of us were not able to finish so you won't be hungry! Take out boxes were available. Adrian, our host, was charming and attentive and extremely knowledgeable. He turned our tea service into an experience. We loved the stories about his family and the history of Afternoon tea. Wonderful service overall and we can't wait to go back. Definitely worth the trip!
So I came in for a freak milkshake but they said they couldn’t because they were under staffed. There was only 6 people in the cafe. They were out of a bunch of scones, lasagna, and a bunch of other items. Another customer was upset because she had finished her coffee before her food even showed up. It took an hour for me to get my sandwich, which was delicious and the server was pleasant and polite which is where the stars came from. Over all I’m disappointed but that’s the reality of businesses these days I guess.
Authentic British afternoon tea that can be found in a small town in Nova Scotia. It was a pleasure with the Birkinshaw afternoon tea in this facility. We were served by the grandchild(? from the original owners and he told us many interesting facts how the food was served. The afternoon tea came in a scratched serving plate with aromas on the bottom, scenes in the middle, and sweet cakes and pastries on the top. It didn't look like a lot of food, but it was safe to fill. The camouflaged cream that came with the scones are a must try and they are so delicious to use together with the custard. It is definitely a must to visit if you have never had an afternoon tea. Make sure to make a reservation as we saw that a family was turned away because it was full on a Saturday afternoon.
I have enjoyed my Cream Tea experience so well! After reading all glowing reviews, Birkinshaw had created some quite high expectations to live. It exceeded not only expectations, it embodied all my hopes and dreams, which could be a tea room. I particularly appreciate the mixed porcelain with knots to Atlantic Canada. I was most impressed by how I managed to transport myself to an English market town and stay firmly rooted in local culture and production. I came for the Maritime Cream tea and was thoroughly and extremely pleased. It is worth coming for the homemade camouflaged cream alone, but my tea also included blueberries lemonsauce and lavender shortbread, not to mention the lemon curd and blueberry jam. I have to find another place in Canada that offers the standard cream tea like me in British TV shows (only the scones, no finger sandwiches or dessert cakes) and I have left Birkinshaws Skeptical that I could ever find a place that made it pretty good.
