Being far from vegetarian or any of those diets, we always look for places that serve meat and this one came on top of our list when in Zapopan. The concept is quite cool as you walk in and are greeted by the smell of grilled meat!. The place was pretty full on Sundays and most of the clientele was local (a good sign). We ordered the peinecillo and it was just delicious! while the portions are not huge, they are sufficient to fill you up. But we recommend you also try a queso fundido (ask for extra chorizo in it) as this will compliment your meal.
Coming from a beef-eating society, I saw the sign Carne Asada and got excited! To our disappointment, the meat was a little over cooked, the beef slab was thinner than a chicken fried steak, and the taste, left us hungry for more! They left on the fat chunks and the broken beef bones, had to inspect my serving for them! They have awesome salsas though, and fair soupy beans that lacked spices. I don 't know what the folks around here are used to but we expected thicker cuts and better quality of the same!
I went in on a Sunday night late. There were about 3 tables occupied and the waiters were not very friendly. Service was ok. I ordered a beef steak, it was cut very thin and then chopped up. It had very little taste and was completely cold after just a few minutes. I have eaten at many places in GDL that are much better than this place and for that reason I will not return. Just not good and the price is average for GDL.
Quirky place, while the carne asada is good, for them to not provide knives and forks is frankly stupid. Instead you are provided a large soup spoon that is useful for eating the beans. I am surprised the owner doesn't expect you to slurp it up. The spoon is not all that useful in scooping the thin wide pieces of meat. This is not a cheap taqueria, a serving of meat is 120 pesos. I feel that a restaurant should provide its clients whatever they request in this regard.
