The Maltings - York

My wife requested a non-alcoholic drink, but when given a drink with 0.5% alcohol, she was called strange by the owner! I was not aware of this until after we had left the restaurant, or else there may have been a confrontation. Other staff members were impolite to us and to other guests. We were told not to use a certain table to place our glasses on because it belonged to the owner, which we found ridiculous. We left feeling disappointed, as the beer was just okay. Our friends also did not have a good experience.

This restaurant is inaccessible. Unfortunately, we can't provide a review because we were unable to enter the establishment. When we approached with a wheelchair user and inquired about access, we were told that there was no way for our friend to enter. It is unacceptable in this day and age to deny access in such a manner. We decided not to enter as a result. It was quite disappointing and not welcoming at all. Interestingly, we had no trouble accessing the oldest pub in Yorkshire.

Never had a problem here. Beer always good and a fair price. Haven’t eaten here but am told it’s quite good.

I have been coming to this pub since 2000, and I can quite honestly say that I never tire of having a quintessential experience here. I went out for a training walk this morning in the rather windy, stormy elements. I arrived and was greeted warmly by Shaun and the ever friendly staff. A little bit of a chat before given a menu and invited to take a seat. I chose the ham and cheese toastie with home made chips and salad. It was cooked to perfection and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I definitely recommend anyone coming to York to it a visit, as per normal nothing much has changed since first coming here in Summer 2000. Absolutely awful experience in this pub, staff were ignorant, listening in on out private conversation. Not professional at all. Would never return here. Very disappointed
