Byron High Ousegate - York

It was a frigid day in York and I was starving. There are some days when ONLY a burger will do on those days go to Byron. They’ll take good care of you. A lovely waitress called Maria greeted and seated us and got the drinks and menus sorted. I chose an IPA beer that was as tutti and fruity as me on a weekend! What a perfect way to start lunch. I chose the double bacon cheese with regular fries and it was sublime. My partner in crime chose a vegan option and sang its praises too. I would confidently take Jules from Pulp Fiction here, confident that he would announce “mmm mmmm. That is a tasty burger!”. These guys run circles around Big Kahuna Burgers IMO. Not a cheap gig by any means but buy nice or buy twice. Well worth the money for a superb dining experience.

Amazing! Disregard previous reviews...we have been coming here for years and have never had a negative experience. If you're looking for a Big Mac style burger, this is not the place for you!!! Thankfully, they serve delicious burgers made with real meat, fresh salad, piping hot fries, and provide friendly service. Keep up the great work...we'll definitely be returning soon. Cheers!

This restaurant offers gluten-free buns and is knowledgeable about gluten-free options. Their menu indicates various allergens in the food, and they take precautions to avoid cross-contamination. I enjoyed the meatless burger and tater tots, while my partner tried the Christmas special burger with gravy. I would recommend this place.

Nowhere on the menu or the website does it state that they will add a discretionary 10% service charge to your bill. This is illegal, but when I went to pay for my meal, the waitress printed the bill, hid it under the card machine, and held it out for me to pay. She did not inform me of the hidden charge, nor did she allow me to see it on the bill without asking. They no longer offer the option to add a tip, instead they are forcing customers to tip through fraudulent means. The staff may not even receive this money. Another diner who saw the charge on their bill appeared distressed but paid it without complaint. Byron and other chain restaurants may be profiting from customers who are unaware or too polite to question the charge. The condition of the restaurant, with its plastic roof, scratched tables, torn seats, and stained cushions, is unpleasant and reminiscent of being pickpocketed. It is important to inform customers about any additional charges, and failure to do so suggests that these charges should not be added in the first place. Attempts to contact consumer protection agencies and the restaurant have not been successful. Check your bill carefully and request the removal of any illegal charges. If you wish to leave a tip, consider giving cash directly to your server.

First visit, food was lovely if a kittle expensive, service was fantastic and the waitress was great and very flirty in a nice way. Will definitely visit again if in york in future
