The Seafood Kitchen

Friendly staff members, good and flavourful food. Reasonably priced with big potions. Their 'small beginning ' portions are as big as a meal; and their shared portions are enough for at least 2 people.

Seafood chowder was full of large chunks of fresh seafood and even a huge scallop great value. Unfortunately it was pretty much unseasoned, but you can get electric salt and pepper dispensers from the staff. Complimentary chocolate fish :

Somewhat expensive, but very crispy chips are a bonus, as is the range available it's surprising how hard it is to get seafood in the middle of NZ's biggest coastal city! Nice range of dishes, but it's hard to go past the fish and chips as good as you'd get at any gastropub, though a little smaller than a number of the pubs for the same size. As usual for a Elliot Stables place, be ready to knifefight for a table, and bring your own wet wipes to wipe it down chances are that the tables are sticky again. *sigh*

The fish chips lunch special was good value. Good portion fish in a light but crispy beer batter seasoned perfectly and served with tartar sauce. Chips were thick cut and not as crispy but fresh and served with catsup, were decent. Little tart side salad nicely balanced the plate. Staff was friendly and apologised for the wait when he delivered my order to my table in the Elliot Stables communal area. Will order from them again.
