As a cyclist, my group stopped here for lunch. The staff was friendly, informative, courteous, and quick. The food was delicious, fresh, and well-presented. The cakes were yummy, and the ambiance was nice with a beautiful view of the surroundings.
I often take a walk up to the tower and back when I return for holidays. This time, I invited friends along with their teenage children to join us, along with my own younger children, aged 7 and 10. The walk was enjoyable and we had lunch at the main cafe at the top. Typically, I only have a drink due to the prices, but this time we decided to have lunch for a change. The menu mainly consists of paninis, pasties, sausage rolls, quiche, and soup. One of the teenagers was vegan, so we politely asked what vegan options they had. The staff seemed to struggle to provide an answer, and the chef was called over. He was very arrogant and it left a bad taste in my mouth for the rest of the day. They only had a pie with salad as the coleslaw wasn't vegan, which was served with raw cabbage and shredded carrot - quite ridiculous. We also inquired about chips for the other kids since the menu was limited, and he rudely responded that they were not that kind of establishment. Clearly offended by a simple question, he lacked manners and common decency. They try to enhance their items, such as the sausage panini, by adding marmalade or chutney, but it doesn't elevate them to a Michelin-star restaurant or justify the high prices they charge for standard food. It seems they are solely capitalizing on their location, so I wouldn't recommend dining here. Instead, head to the village below for a better atmosphere, more options, and significantly better service.
Won't be going here again. Paid to park car in restaurant car park for four hours to then have a bite to eat in the car park restaurant before we went off for a walk as our parking ticket expired at 19:06. It was lucky that it rained as this delayed our walk so we sat in the car to wait for the storm to go over. It was a good job we did as at 5.00pm two hours before our parking ticket expired we were thrown out of the car park as apparently the car park closes at 5.00pm when the restaurant closes. I would have been horrified if we had gone for a walk returned to find our car locked in. Surely the management have the intelligence to put a notice on the parking meter to state that the gates will be locked at 5.00pm although its probably connected to the profits as they would need to put a two hour charge on the machine. I'm sure many vehicles have been locked in previously but no doubt it is not the management that get the backlash from irate vehicle owners. If they take your money to park for four hours you should be allowed to park for four hours I would have thought trading standards would agree with me.
Beautiful spot, pleasant staff, but the breakfast was disappointing. Stale bread and leathery bacon, badly made scrambled egg.
