Bidrage med feedbackWe went here to experience a new Indian place for our anniversary and were not disappointed! We have travelled extensively through Asia, and we were soooo happy to find a place with genuine South Indian food. We ordered the masala dosa, which was nice and crispy, and had a curried potato mash on the inside. It also came with a small bowl of tasty dhal on the side as well as several dipping sauces.<br/ <br/ Next came our 3 mains (we ordered waaaay too much, but wanted to try some different dishes and have some for home too). These mains were 1) Chicken Varuthara, 2) Beef Curry (thick gravy), and 3) Vegetable Korma. The first 2 dishes were absolutely fantastic, complex flavours that made me remember Asia, and realize how bland most 'Butter Chicken ' dishes are in Winnipeg. They were also quite different in flavour profile. The Korma was good, but not great; it was a white style Korma with a strong focus on black pepper. All around it was still a great dining experience, but we mostly just care about really delicious food and we were not disappointed.<br/ <br/ We WILL come back for sure. But we will only order one of the South Indian dishes each and maybe a dosa, depending on how hungry we are.
This is by far the best Indian food I have had in Winnipeg.Absolutely love the kappa biryani.the food has the perfect amount of spice.and it delivers what the menu says perfectly unlike other restaurant where spicy means addition of chilli flakes n blandness.really love southern spices and wish it was open nearer to polo park area. <br/
I generally love Indian food but I might have been naive to these particular flavours. I ordered the Indian omelette, knowing it had green curries but it was so completely covered/coated I couldn’t taste anything else. Had two bites and was dying i couldn’t do it. Then I got the south India style veg cutlet which said it had vegetables, bread crumbs, garlic, onion, potato, and ginger, which sounds unreal. Don’t know if there was way too much ginger or why it tasted so spicy but it was burning my mouth off. Now I am aware this type of restaurant is not always for me, but based on that description of menu item I felt it would be okay. It wasn’t it was awful. Last I tried the tomato and onion uttapam and same thing. Just wayyyyyy too much spice in it and I couldn’t eat it at all. Hated everything. And I’ll reiterate that I normally love Indian food but I guess South Indian food is a lot different?
Great food. Original less greasy paper dosa. You have to try the dosa. Tea is great. Authentic South Indian food. They make it fresh. The best South Indian restaurant in Winnipeg.
We have been to Southern Spices several times love the food ,we are very happy to have Southern flavour finally in Winnipeg ,we would highly recommend it for its unique flavour different from 99 of the other Indian restaurants which all tastes the same .
