Johnny G's Restaurant & Bar - Winnipeg

It was a Sunday night and while steady it was not flat our busy. A reasonable selection of food off the menu, but the wine selection is a bit light on. Very good service, prompt and helpful. My steak was cooked to perfection, so I assume your choice of style will be met as well.

I'll admit that I didn't have high expectations for a place that's open until 4am in a neighbourhood I would be uncomfortable walking alone in at night, but I was very pleasantly surprised. My boyfriend and I walked in around 2am and were seated right away. The place was fairly empty and it seemed like a nice, cozy retreat. Within about 15 minutes, the place was swarming with people who had come from surrounding bars as they closed. Still, Johnny G's maintained its bright, inviting atmosphere. Our drink and food orders were taken promptly. I had a vanilla shake and the peppercorn sirloin, which is served with garlic bread and fettuccine Alfredo. My boyfriend had a poutine. Our drinks arrived in under 5 minutes. They were dropped off hastily, and it might seem like the waitress was being rude, but I've been a waitress and I could see that there was a large group of people coming in and she needed to attend to them quickly as she was the only person on the floor at that time. Our food took about 15 minutes to arrive, and the waitress was much more pleasant and calm. The food was delicious. I like my steak cooked medium, and most places will overcook a medium steak. Johnny G's got it just right!I couldn't finish my pasta, so I had it packed up and brought it back to my hotel. My boyfriend ate his entire, massive platter of poutine and expressed a great deal of delight.Overall it was a great meal. My only criticism is that I wished there were more wait staff on the floor. It's very tough to be the only one working out there and I had a great deal of sympathy for the poor girl.

I have reduced my trips to eat out recently and find that I will return to places that are excellent. I had a late lunch (12:45) with an out of town family member. The drinks came quickly and the orders were taken promptly. The fries alone are worth a stop, but combine them with the burger or chicken fingers makes for a very filling meal

Great burgers. Homemade patties (a big deal coming from BC). crazy busy at 3am, loud and staff was slightly on guard ( can hardly blame them) full of drunk characters. Fantastic option late at night... but be polite and not in a rush.

Good food love the steak and pasta!! But at times I'll order a medium steak & it's a well done steak. Seems like the cooks can't cook a steak! Lol... or one time a group of 6 of us came and the waitress mixed up our steaks! Thanks for my well done steak & flat pop that I waited 40mins for. The food is really good though!! Just bad service and a long wait.
