Purple Ox - West Jefferson

The treats are good. The food is goods. The service is good. However, they are VERY undependable. They don't stick to a schedule. You never know when they'll be open.

We all scream for Ice-Cream? Well.. I do.... Sometimes. Shh. Don't tell anyone. The Purple Ox is located on the outskirt of the town of West Jefferson right along Route 40. Blink and you'll miss the place. They used to have a fun stone purple painted cow they placed out by the road, but I imagine it got the better of some West Jefferson hick, because it's no longer there. I will not speculate what it's now being used for in the town of West Jeff, but anyways... The easiest way to find this place is to keep your eye out for the fire-station.. It's right across the street from it. It's one of those neat seasonal Ice-Cream places that open from late spring until Fall-ish time. And it's a perfect ending to a good meal, or a baseball game, or hell.. whenever you want some Ice-Cream. It's a kick-back to the old School Ice-Cream shack days before the Dairy Queen's and Jeni's invaded. You walk up to window read all the miscellaneous papers that have been taped up on the windows displaying size and flavors and order your heart's Ice-Cream desire. The ice-cream is soft-serve, and they offer a few different flavors, but the Flurries are where it's at, ya'll. I'm partial to Reese's Pieces and this place hooked me up. And the craziest thing is that it was halfway decent soft-serve. In fact, it was one of the best candy Ice-Cream mixers I've had in quite a long time. Hence, the 5 stars. This is a little gem. Definitely stop by if you're passing through, or looking to satisfy some sort of sweet-tooth attack. Good Stuff.
