Small State Provisions - West Hartford

Terrible decision. We ordered items that were clearly on display. Waited 20 minutes and then watched as others received there items after we were then to be told sorry we ran out. We were charged too. They did offer a refund but that is unacceptable.

People are nice, baked goods overall good, but not exceptional could be because I live in Philly where the food scene is at another level). One specific feedback I want to give is that the poundcake I got was so hard, while I was expecting soft, moist taste like other normal poundcakes. Maybe don't sell the edge part? no one wants that part of a poundcake and I got it on my first visit leaving a poor impression :

I have been wanting to try Small State for a while, and missed them one afternoon while at the Gastropark, so came back the next morning after a yoga class to try this sourdough. I am SO glad I did because I’m officially *obsessed*. It is so flavorful and perfectly baked- I’ve been trying to find great bread since moving to CT and this bakery is pretty spectacular. The pecan cheddar scone was also delicious and now I can’t wait to try everything they make. I also hope to make it to Avon to the other location, but the West Hartford one will be in my regular rotation for sure. Thank you!!

The egg sandwich on focaccia is one of the best breakfast sandwiches I’ve ever had! The first time I ordered it I was skeptical because there was no meat or protein other than the egg, but this sandwich doesn’t need it. The deliciously creamy egg and sriracha mayo paired with the peppery arugula and herbaceous bread is just perfection. I’m literally addicted! Side note, if the owner sees this and wants to share the secret for getting the eggs so creamy and fluffy, please feel free to share! I’ve tried to replicate with no success lol.
