Only place we found open in Cerne Abbas. Great food, friendly staff and will go back next time we are in the area
A lovely old coaching inn in the heart of Cerne Abbas. A very warm welcome from the bartender and locals alike. After much deliberation over what to choose we were then given the specials for the day, making our choice even harder! Finally settled on the steak and the beef pie with roasted cabbage. The steak was cooked to perfection and very flavoursome (it’s the only time my partner hasn’t reached for the salt and pepper). The pie was perfect, with a proper pastry top and bottom (not a stew with a lid masquerading as a pie). Crisp, delicate pastry, hearty meaty filling and the cabbage was a revelation, absolutely delicious. Thank you New Inn for a lovely evening.
I have visited this pub before and had a lovely meal but have recently visited again for a drink and was extremely disappointed at the pub’s atmosphere it was unpleasant from when we walked through the door and felt as though we were being judged left, right and center. The bar staff were very blunt and not welcoming at all, it did not have a friendly, relaxed vibe as a country pub like this should. I think it’s safe to say I have been put off visiting again unfortunately which is a shame as the food is good! Seeing as the bar staff are often the first faces you see when entering a pub a much more welcoming reception would go a long way with customers.
Very cold unwelcoming atmosphere, bar staff are very rude. Me and my friends came into the pub for a drink and potentially some food in the garden after having driven to Cerne from Weymouth. The bar lady interrupted my friend when she was ordering rudely asking for ID when all that was ordered was an orange juice and lemonade, not to mention that alone was almost £5!!!!, the whole place gave a cold vibe. won’t be returning didn't feel welcomed and it set the mood of what was supposed to be a nice evening out into a bad one.
