Stunning view, good food at reasonable prices and great atmosphere after visiting the city. On the not so great side is the staff, that is extremely slow and if you have bad luck you can even encounter one the dose not speak English and has...extremely poor German. The place is quite small and can be crowded, not fit for tables of more than 8 people. However after a day of walking and great pictures, the restaurant offers a nice refuge and a good meal.
The choice of restaurants in Festung Ehrenbreitstein is limited, however, not much can beat the view and atmosphere of this one, as the name shows, in the old Officers Club (Offizierskasino) of the fortress. Being here on a very sunny day, all seats outside were...taken, but inside it was cool and nice. The day’s special was lasagna and the children had spaghetti with tomato sauce, pretty good without distinction. It was washed down with their own Festungsbräu (Fortress Brew). The interior as well as the menu implies the Prussian heritage the children’s menu has the caption “Für unsere kleinen Preußen” (For our young Prussians). But this is on historical soil and that's why you are here!
After walking through fortress decided to eat here to overlook valley and rivers. Had seat at table along the wall. As expected the view is great and unobstructed. After 15 min. We had to go get a server otherwise I don't think they would have...ever come to us. Once they did acknowledge us the service was fine, so maybe many sit here to rest and not eat. Thankfully my wife is German and could read the menu. No English version. Although you could safely order traditional options like schnitzel or wursts if you were not familiar with other options. Four of us, all liked our choices. Salad with goat cheese, schnitzel, salad, and flammkuchen. Price not unreasonable. Just don't eat here if in a rush.
When entering the restaurant we were opened it was full and up would now be closed. the note on the outside terrace was missing in the monologue. good, we (9 pax) then put us outside and the waiter that appears after some time tried to iron the faux patch in the restaurant by ease. but then two tables could not be booked together ("the service comes together." aha). the result was that at one table the coffee was drunk, but the cake was not served yet and the other was already ready to break up. overwhelmed service personnel and bad organization.
