Pupuseria San Miguel - Washington DC

The Best!!. A small tiny restaurant, with a delicious and tasty food. That takes you back to Central America and their delicious Pupusas.. A must check out place while visiting this historic town of mt pleasant.

This little place is awesome. We came to the city for a pupusa festival but they were sold out. So, disapointed, my friend and I looked for a restaurant close by. We passed it a few times because the signage isnt the biggest. Also, its down stairs. Literally a hole in the wall and Mama is cookin!!! I only got pupusas. But thats all I went for. They were fabulous- All three flavors. Cheese, bean and cheese, and pork. Im not sure but it seemed as though she stuffed to order, they tasted soooo fresh. They were perfect, not drowing in oil, not cardboad dry, perfectly golden, molten lava in the center- just the way I like them. The cheese didnt seem like the typical mozzarella, like they really went out of their way to get the good stuff. The pork was juicy and tender. And the beans, well i liked those the most- smooth, velvety, and creamy from the cheese. Be aware that it can get extremely busy so be patient. Its well worth the wait. If youre American, make an effort to speak spanish, theyll really appreciate you for it. : I love this place. Its my new favorite. Delicious! When you 're holding a steaming hot pupusa after a short 15 minute wait, you commit to coming back and memorizing your takeout order in Spanish. I live very close to San Miguel, and the cold weather this weekend made me want to explore a new restaurant without having to travel far. Other times I have tried to get pupusas to-go, they take awhile to make from scratch. Normally I 'd be fine waiting 30 or so minutes for a takeout order, but when the temperature is 8 degrees with wind chill, that patience wanes. When I called ahead around 7pm on a Sunday, the lady answering the phone did not speak any English. Luckily my roommate is fluent, but even if she had not been home I think I could have mustered quatro pupusas con todos por favor. para llevar! On a warmer day I would definitely just go order at the counter and wait the quick 10 minutes it took for them to whip these up. For $12 we got 4 pupusas with everything (beans, cheese, pork, and loroco). If you take any of these ingredients off, you can pay as little as $1.50 each. They were still piping hot after my 8 min walk in the freezing cold. Do yourself a favor and check this place out!

It's a hole in a wall salvadoran place that will serve you some great pupusa and fajitas. a lot of tasty meat! don't expect the place to look nice tho. it's a local family owned place. the lady was very nice and and service was great. the lady doesn't speak english much so be patient with her :

Great food at a really affordable price! I'm a huge fan of their pupusas and as I am salvadorian, I know a great Pupusa when I eat one. Hands down, one of the juiciest and flavor-filled Pupusa I've had in DC. Other places make a decent Pupusa but not like San Miguel. I come here more often now and I usually down about 5 cheese pupusas for under $10 The place is small but it's a humble place to eat. They usually have two TVs running with Univision or another Spanish station so if you want to better your Spanish and check out the amazing Hispanic lifestyle, check out San Miguel. Side Notes: -you can order to go, not sure if they deliver -your first time? I would order a cheese Pupusa to get accustomed to the food.
