Bidrage med feedbackMy score 4 stars. Great lunchtime deal that more locals tourists should partake in being at other end of Leibig St away from restaurant precinct probably doesn 't help walk in trade. We lived near Warrnambool for 9 months over last spring/summer/autumn ate here at least once a fortnight. Service level ok to good depending on who serves you; mainly we got the chef/owner who was a nice guy (he chose all the Bollywood background music which was great). There was a woman who was also pleasant another woman who was ok. Food For $12.50 you get a thali (platter) which consists of 2 mains/nice long grain rice/really generous sized naan/yoghurt/pappadum a drink we would leave feeling very full take some naan with us for ron. Butter chicken/Lamb rogan josh for the carnivores, but we chose a vego version of Dal Shahi Paneer. The Dal was smoky rich we really enjoyed the texture of the larger pulses amongst the smaller lentils. The paneer was good sauce was creamy flavoursome with a nice chilli level. We settled on medium plus heat after trying a few different levels early on. Each visit we would see regulars 'in the know ' either dining in or getting the lunch deal as take away... One of the better lunch venues in this part of the world definitely under rated!
Food good, service good , did not have to wait long. Food was not what we normally eat, Enjoyed the change But I don't think it would be a regular on our menu list.
The Indian food at India Gate is exceptional. While visiting Warrnambool, we had trouble finding a restaurant open on a Monday night. We decided to try India Gate based on its positive reviews on Urban Spoon. We were not let down - the restaurant had lovely decor, excellent service, and amazing food. The BYO option was a bonus and the prices were very reasonable. If this restaurant were in Melbourne, it would be packed all the time. I highly recommend this hidden gem.
Well-kept secret. I am continually disappointed with the quality of dining in the south west after moving to the area two years ago, but India Gate is an exception. It's worked its way into my routine, heading down there about every three weeks to get a chicken sagwala with na'an and steamed rice for about $25. A fairly standard price for what is, consistently, a rich, tasty, fulfilling meal. <br/ <br/ I have also tried the butter chicken, which is a little sweeter than I am used to, but is still of top quality. The only disappointing experience I have had was when the lamb was severely overcooked, leading to hard lumps floating in the curry sauce. But one bad experience out of about 20 is a pretty good return, especially for a Warrnambool restaurant.<br/ <br/ The one thing I cannot understand is how it is usually fairly empty on most nights. I feel the people of Warrnambool are missing out on high-quality food, with pleasant service in a warm setting. Perhaps it is hard to spot as people race around the Liebig Street corner. Perhaps it is because Indian cuisine has yet to establish itself in this part of regional Victoria. <br/ <br/ Highly recommended.
"This Indian restaurant is fantastic! Despite being the only customers there, we received excellent service. Be sure to check out the specials board - we tried the coconut naan with our curries, which was not on the menu, and it was delicious. If you enjoy Indian food, you will definitely love Indian Gate. I highly recommend it."
