Rebel Brasserie Urbaine - W MONTREAL

I had a very generous portion of the best beef carpaccio, served with plenty of Parmesan cheese, arugula salad, dried tomatoes, and capers. For my second dish, I ordered the panko shrimp, which was also very tasty and not overcooked. My son opted for the tuna tartare, which was delicious but unfortunately served with frozen French fries (disappointing). Our server, Marc-Antoine, did a fantastic job and was extremely charming.

The food was wonderful. The lobster bisque was fabulous and the steak, although not excellent, was very good. My friends loved their meals as well. It was busy, so the service was a touch slow, but still good. The people were very friendly and apologized for the slower than usual service...a couple of times. (Which I appreciated because they were aware of it and let us know. I would go back anytime.

This place has a great atmosphere, even though it was very quiet when we visited. (Early evening mid week on a rainy day). We were greeted by the patron and he was happy to talk us through the menu and taste some wine. Great background music. We had jumbo shrimp cocktail with a spicy tomato sauce followed by roast chicken breast with a port sauce served with a smooth mash and fresh vegetables and a duck and mushroom risotto. All delicious. As it was a birthday, the patron gave us creme brulee as a gift along with an acapella version of “Happy Birthday”. Thank you.

Recently ate here and will not be back. Waitress was trying hard but the place was empty. No water refills until we asked, meat not cooked, orders arrived not as requested. Told there was nothing the chef could do. Not offered anything to compensate for the poor experience. Staff more interested in chatting at the bar together instead of giving customer service. The steak house two blocks away is more expensive but service and food are A+.
