Bidrage med feedbackVisited this restaurant for the first time in September 2016, having driven past it for over 10 years! Thought to ourselves if this restaurant has been here this long it must be ok! On out first visit (having checked out other Trip Advisor reviews we were not disappointed, the host was most welcoming and the food was absolutely delicious! The coucous is superb with the choice to add chick peas, harissa and sultanas to it. The boulettes (meatballs are delish and others who have dined with us have had the chicken and merguez which was equally delicious. The vegetables too served in a huge casserole are totally yummy and all in all we love visiting this restaurant. We visit this part of Normandie every 5 weeks or so and make a beeline to Le Berbère each visit now...what a lovely find :
Try the Le Berbere for something different: its an inexpensive, small couscous retaurant run by a very friendly chap who also happens to be a big football and Liverpool FC fan! Kids are made very, very welcome and the restaurant is popular with local people. The restaurant's menu provides a choice of different grilled meats (sorry vegetarians) which are all served with a large bowl of couscous and a similarly large dish of mixed vegetables cooked in their own stock. Traditional accompliments, included with the meal price, are small side dishes of raisins and pulses and harrisa (a N African chilli spice sauce). The restaurant offers some really quite tasty and affordable Middle Eastern wines as well as the other usual drinks. A speciality at the end of the meal is the Mint Tea (which is a nice change to the usual coffee, though that is also available should you want it). From the town's main, central roundabout, by the ancient Clock Tower, take the road adjacent to the Bar Central, which is the D577 signed to Mortain Sourdeval, walk down to the bottom of the hill where there are X roads and traffic lights, and opposite on the left you will see a large car park area the restaurant is at the far end of the car park about 10 paces further up the main road).
Having lived and worked in North Africa a number of years ago it was great to experience a true couscous meal. Service was superb, and entertaining at times (my son wanted French fries! . Great Algerian wine. Will definitely be back.
Beautiful decoration, very pleasant boss and several varieties of couscous all better than others! I recommend the royal: copyy, complete and excellent!
Very good surprise that this Berber restaurant with a vire. We landed a Friday after the market in a room that we had for both of us (which always makes a little doubt) and we were immediately put in the mood of the smain'chach. We chose each king and I must say that we enjoyed ourselves. It's spicy to want, it's insane, and we have a good time with this loving boss who, he feels, wants to please you first. And the cherry on the cake is that, while he saw us for the first time, he offered us teas with the mint. hat and thank you smain for this feeling of welcome that makes you a real professional, of which many restorers would be good to take grain (smoul) you will see us very dear, sir, because you have proved that it was a fire that we cannot find.
