Bidrage med feedbackThat was a good Cajun/Southern food. I have the gum and the shrimps. I filled up and it was delicious. I wish they had a better beer selection. Vicksburg must jump on the craft beer car.
No cancer at lunch. Here for crust fish they do not have until dinner (7 p.m. disappointing for us at lunch, but goes to show that phone calls and questions for details is probably a good idea. Note: I am from West-PA and then North-IN, so Cajun/Kreole Essen is not something I grew up with and my reviews are based on it. Try Cajun fries Decent, do I guess? French frits with engraving, meat (probably brisket, but mostly seemed like pot roasts and cheese sauce. I don't like poutins much, so my view of this is probably not useful, but I wasn't a big fan of combination. It was also very salty and I like salt. Chicken sausages good! The only negative was that it was quite fat, floating with a fat layer on top. (For reference: I eat a lot of fast food; I usually spray the fat from McD's sausage patents before I eat the sausage biscuit, but otherwise not like most fast food is too fat. Fair thin broth, and the gumbo consisted mostly of chicken, pieces of sausage (if some more heat in the sausage preferred, and pieces of Okra, while other gumbos I have met had some other vegetables. This is not really a negative or a positive for me just thought that it is worth noting. Shrimp The taste was fantastic, but again it was awfully fat. It also had a very fishy aftertaste; I know that Etouffe often uses the seafood of the previous day, but I would suspect that the shrimp was at least a few days old at this point. I don't think this would be a big negative for people who like seafood more than I, so I think that was my problem, not theirs. Flowers This was the first time I had Boudin, ever, so take this with a grain salt as I have no idea how it should be. I wasn't much of a fan of these because, for my taste, the taste of something else in the Boudin was overwhelmed by Thymian (and Sage? . I like herbs, but that was like I smash herb bundles into my sinus soups before I tried to eat, and it was all I could really taste. I might give it a pass if I were back, but I'm not sure how Boudin should be, so I don't think my opinion is particularly relevant. Service was great and everyone was very nice. I would definitely go back when I return to Vicksburg at any point, and in any case it would recommend while I would probably order some different items next time, this is personal taste, not an objective assessment of quality.
Value the drive for Cajun or BBQ if you don't mind plastic silverware. I visited T’Beaux twice, for lunch and dinner. It's out of the way, but it's worth going through the hospital. The decor is funky but clean, and more than you expect from what you see outside. Speaking of the outside, there are many seats – perfect for listening to live music and eating cancer. T’Beaux’s has a pretty selection of Cajun/Creole “Soups” like 2 types of Gumbo, Bisque, Etouffee and red beans rice. You also have a good BBQ selection. I found that, while well, the 2 types of rubber bears were thin, the actually authentic New Orleans style, just not my personal favorite. The Etouffee was ironic thick, creamy and very good. The BBQ is decent – I tried the combo with brisket and sausage. I would have preferred a lot more sausage and much less brisket. I would also like to have the 2 pages (my choice was beans and Cole Slaw) slightly larger. But overall a fair amount of food for the price. But by far my personal pet Peeve, which will make it hard for me to return, eats on plastic sheets with plastic cutlery. Outdoor eating mud bugs is one thing, but inside I need a real knife and fork.
Delicious Po-Jungs and Hushpuppies. One of the best southern restaurants I found during life in Vicksburg.
The restaurant itself is very laid-back. Whenever you walk through the door it is as if they have known you forever and they treat you like family. The food is reasonably priced. I had the swamp Burger, shrimp and fried mushrooms. All of which was very good. The swamp Burger was my favorite part of the meal and can only be described with one word. Amazing. I would recommend this restaurant to anybody and everybody that I see and meet. Thank you guys so much for a great time. I will be back again and again until my job in this area is complete.
