After spending 12 days in Italy, I can confidently say that our meal at La Taverna di via Stella was one of my absolute favorites. A quick note on getting a reservation--we had trouble making reservations since we could not call as we did not have service. We were able to squeeze into the beginning of the lunch service after being turned away the night before due to a full house, but I would recommend making in-person reservations a day or two ahead to make sure you get the chance to eat here. This restaurant is the perfect little Italian restaurant with an inviting and simultaneously impressive atmosphere. Our waiter was friendly and spoke great English, providing wine and food recommendations. Since I was not able to narrow down the options to just a single dish, my friend and I shared the donkey pasta and the Amarone risotto. Both dishes were absolutely incredible. Anybody visiting Verona must try to the risotto since Amarone is the big wine from the region--though it was quite rich, it was the best risotto I have ever had. I was really excited to try donkey for the first time and the pasta did not disappoint, it was cooked perfectly and the flavors were incredibly tasty. All of the prices were very fair; in fact, they were actually on the cheaper side of what we encountered in Italy. I cannot recommend La Taverna di via Stella enough--if you find yourself in Verona, you must give this restaurant a try!!
La Taverna di Via Stella was recommended to us (my wife and me) by locals and it was a great choice. Like most Americans we eat early and dropped by at 6:45 for dinner only to find that they don't open until 7:15. A host was there however and took our reservation which was a good thing as when we arrived back at 7:15 they filled up in a hurry. La Taverna di Via Stella is rather small with white table cloths and waiters dressed in white shirts, black ties, black trousers and vests. The atmosphere is far from stuffy however and the food was excellent. We started with a glass of Prosecco and then my wife and I split a bowl of farro and porcini mushroom soup which was fantastic. I am eager to see if I can come close to replicating it when I get back into my own kitchen. We then split orders of braised beef cheeks and stuffed squid served with polenta. I had a glass of their house Amarone, a wine which I had heard about but not tried because it is hard to find by the glass. We finished by sharing panna cota with chocolate sauce. We then received a small complementary glass of limoncello to top off the meal. A great dining experience and I highly recommend but made a reservation or you might be disappointed.
We stumbled upon this place while on a day trip to Verona, and had an extremely leisurely and pleasant lunch there. The woman who waited on us was very pleasant and helpful, even though our Italian and her English were quite limited! I started with the lightest gnocchi imaginable topped with an incredibly flavorful horsemeat ragú. Yes, horsemeat. I ate it and I loved it. So flavorful. My friend had a very nice pasta the details of which escape me. For an entree, I had the stuffed duck, which was moist and flavorful if not exactly what I expect from a duck dish (no crisp skin, etc. . We finished with a shared cheese plate with local honey and fruit preserves very nice.
