Bidrage med feedbackWe have been to this restaurant multiple times, but we will not be returning. The food was consistently subpar and the tacos were chewy. There are plenty of other dining options in Virginia Beach for better quality. The server seemed more focused on being a friendly comedian than taking our order. One of our guests ordered short ribs and received pork instead. It was clear that the server was too distracted to properly serve us. Another guest ordered fajitas and received only three pieces of meat and four small shrimp. Overall, it was a disappointing experience and felt like a rip-off. It was not even a busy Friday night, which makes me doubt if they will last another year.
Some of our dishes were served hot while others were lukewarm, despite being supposed to be served hot. We arrived at 6:20 and the waitress took our drink orders at 6:30. The bartender informed us that happy hour prices were no longer available as it was past the designated time to place the order. The restaurant has some room for improvement, but hopefully they will make necessary changes to enhance the overall experience for customers in the future.
The salsa with chips was delicious. The beef and shrimp were good. I didn't particularly like the bowl it was served in. The corn tortilla wasn't great, it probably would have been better with a flour tortilla. The lemon chicken enchilada was tasty, but the steak enchilada was tough and difficult to chew. The black beans on the side were bland. The specialty margarita was excellent but a bit pricey. Next time, I'll try the house margarita instead. I'll also explore the special menu on my next visit. Overall, I don't think Mexico is their strong suit despite the restaurant's name.
We hoped Jake's would fill a missing niche in the Vero Beach Food scene. After a visit we think that the Vero Beach area still needs a good Tex Mex restaurant. The food at Jake was really pretty good. However, the culinary experience was disappointing the tables in the restaurant were disgustingly dirty and the decor was essentially not existent. And... there is no frozen Margarita machine. You get the feeling that the owner is testing the Tex Mex concept and has not fully committed to the effort. Based on an experience, there can never be a second.
Very disappointed in our meal. There were 4 of use and no one in the party enjoyed their meal. Not only did I make a table reservation but wound up with the worst table in the restaurant by the front door. Every time someone entered so did the 90 degrees from out side. It had to be over 90 in the restaurant. No a/c we even asked our waitress if the a/c was broken. We were all sweating so bad could not wait to leave. Found the food to lack flavor, spices poor presentation. They forgot half of my husbands order. Refried beans were dark green. Will never eat there again and I honestly cant see how it wills stay in business.
