Bidrage med feedbackI had heard a lot of good about this place and I wanted to try a poutine close to home, but I am very difficult when it comes to our national dish.__It was
We go to this place exclusively for their poutineThey have real cheese curds, and i must say their cheese is delicious.
The staff is so sweet. Not that expensive for such a good poutine! Their hot dogs are amazing too. Best poutine in Verdun!
When in Verdun, on a blistering hot day (the car thermometer showed outside temperature) we craved poutine, and Verdun is obviously one of THE places for poutine around Montreal. So I looked up some reviews to find that Normand received some reviews and is just km away. How far can you miss on a casse-croute with such statistics? that's not a Gault et Millau or a Michelin guide case, right? Apparently, this was one of those hit and miss cases. At the cash register I asked what sizes of poutine they have and was shown two aluminium take-away containers one personal size and the other, larger one, which at some other places can be considered a medium size or a large size where they play it cheap. I said I want to eat inside so the guy said oh, then you pay only after and pointed at the tables. I could then see that a waitress was already at a table waiting beside my wife. I asked the waitress for one poutine, assuming that as she sees two people she'll bring the larger size I was still with my mind at the cash with the picture of the larger container. Anyway she didn't check with us about what size we want. Pretty fast we got a small ceramic dish, the size of your ordinary home soup plate, of poutine to share between the two of us we even got two forks, and I wondered why it was so small compared to the take-away large size I was offered at the cash. The TASTE: it was OK but nothing special, for sure no better nor worse nor more distinguishable than your ordinary neighborhood's poutine. Go to any casse-croute or cantine around MTL and you'll get about the same quality, no need to check on any reviews for that end. However we were surprised at the very small amount of cheese curds, especially considering that every poutine place in Quebec they will load up so much cheese it almost seems ridiculous. But here most of the cheese curds were huge in size so the spread of taste was far less even than usual, on top of the visibly small amount of poutine being served. The waitress (as this place is served by a waitress and not a standard self-service casse-croute as the name implies) didn't bring any water to the table and didn't ask us if we want any water. outside, really. Back at the cash to pay, the waitress billed me to my surprise, and when I said oh, I thought it was a poutine for two or something of the sort, she answered (in French but the translation is exact) you didn't say you want for two so I brought you for one Dah??? You're a waitress! Your job is to ask, no? And again, what about water to the table? A place served by a waitress that doesn't serve water on one of the hottest days on record (maybe the hottest on record)??? Needless to say, I didn't leave any tip. Right away we drove to La Belle Province at the corner of the same street (Verdun) one block away from de l'Eglise. Ordered une gross poutine at the caisse, and were served by a waitress( to the table( in a fast-food chain a huge deep CERAMIC plate one of biggest servings of poutine that we've ever experienced, in decades, for sure times at least the size of the personal poutine at Normand's. Taste was better, definitely, cheese was in abundance, price just tax included. La Belle Province isn't a resto so I was not expecting water to be served. I could ask for and probably would have been served, but we did have our water bottle with us... So, why Normand? Really, no reason! You won't regret going there, probably, if you tell the waitress how she should be doing her job : but it's one of those most common of places. I could also give it for average but the stupidity and pretense of this place just require a less than average rating.
Super good fast food. Hot dogs, fries and poutine are all good. Not healthy food but okay once in a while, why not!
