Bidrage med feedbackI have been wanting to take the 15 min quick trip to Verdun to try Blackstrap. Finally we went with my son from New York and were a little disappointed.I had been hyping up the ribs and the chicken but they both gave their meals a...6/10.Not meaty, one of the sauces was off and much better BBQ in Brooklyn.I had the tacos which looked and tasted good but were missing a zesty lime crema and real limes to make them delicious .The green bean side did not have one ounce of seasoning and the coleslaw was average. Nice ambiance and very family friendly, good service but the food did not deliver.Maybe a case of the post holiday blues in the kitchen?
Food is great, staff are fantastic! I would like to see more of a bourbon selection and more combo offers. All that said though I really enjoy this place and have been multiple times.
Really beautiful place. gréât gréât service. amazing owners willing to talk to them and offer great food. bark meat was amazing as well as super good kartoffels. I also loved mushrooms. they make them special away super tasty. to repeat
Perhaps part of my disappointment was due to the fact that I like my ribs sweeter and smoked ribs aren't as sweet as I like them....but for $14.99 to be served four 4 long ribs with gristle, a small thimble of baked beans that tasted...like soap and a small cup of cole slaw that was way too tart....this place is a total ripoff. Not to mention the cafeteria like service and having to eat sitting on a stool at a counter...my overall dining experience here on a scale from zero to ten rated a minus four!!!!!!! We will see a major blizzard in Montreal in July before I come back here again.
We had visited Blackstrap BBQ on a visit last year, so when deciding where to eat in Montreal during this visit, this was on the top of our list. Since we had last been there, they have expanded into the next bay of the building...with a number of sit-down tables, whereas previously they only had two picnic-style tables indoors and a couple outside near the entrance on Wellington St. Previously, they had some combo meals where you would get 2 or 3 meats and sides all included but they recently changed their menu, now you order each meat and side individually. There were four of us, however we knew their servings were fairly large so we ordered 3 meats (brisket, smoked turkey, and pork ribs) and 3 sided (bean salad, coleslaw and BBQ mushrooms). Everything was delicious, particularly the mushrooms and the turkey. The brisket was very tender (we ordered fatty, you can also ask for lean). There was plenty of food for all of us, but we did manage to eat it all so nothing to take home. We fed 4 adults with great food (including 3 soft drinks) for about $75 (before tip). We would definitely go our of our way to visit Blackstrap BBQ on a future visit.
