Bidrage med feedbackLost in the streets of pisa, we met the stir, passing through the square of victories where there was a market, and it was a pleasant surprise. the decor of an old tavern. appetizer with pecorino and one of the best risottos of our trip in Italy, made with radicchio trevisano really very oca. they also have dishes with fresh pasta. were the best quality/price dishes we ate during our trip.
A small break after visiting the wonderful complex of the novacella Abbey became a delicious lunch. plentiful portions and high quality foods. impeccable service and very kind staff.
Despite the website saying that guided wine tastings including a visit to the vineyards were available every day at 4pm, no one was able to book us in when we arrived at 2pm. No one seemed to know anything about it. Not at the winery shop, nor restaurant, nor museum. This was possibly due to it being harvest period but surely the website could have been updated if there is a week or month when guided wine tastings are interrupted. So we settled for a very basic tasting in the wine shop. This meant charging a plastic card €1 per taste, of the available white wines. No red wines were available as the dispensing machine was out-of-order. As a wine experience this was poor. Sure, we could read reviews from the available wine books or scan info from the QR codes but.... In the meantime the wine shop did a bustling business, tourists lining up to buy wines and other merchandise. One single staff member was on hand, doing an excellent job including looking after our group when the dispensing machine presented problems. There was no guided tour available at the abbey museum, nor audio guide either. We came specifically for the history of the abbey and their wines. The strong feeling was minimum staff for maximum income. Disappointing.
We had a very enjoyable experience visiting this monastery with its beautiful gardens, breath-taking Basilica, and famous wines. The bar cafe is open throughout the day so we were still able to order local cheese plate and ham, and tried out several wines by glass. The two cheeses made with Lagrein wine and herb respectively were to die for, and the wines are fabulous. To taste more of the monastery wines we go for the tasting option, which has almost all of the monastery's wines at good value of euro per tasting size. The tasting charge will be deducted from each bottle of wine one end up buying from the shop next door. The staff serving there are very friendly and willing to help. Definitely worth spending a few hours here while visiting Alto Adige.
Hoe it is possible that a place like thia is closed on sunday, when hundred of turists just join the church?
