Le Saint Helene - Varennes-lès-Narcy

This type of restaurant is getting rarer even in France. But we like it. No nonsence menu composed of self serve buffet with simple but honnest cold starters. Main course selected from a list of 4. Again simple, easy to prepare but honnest and with good taste. Then, of course, cheese with french bread. You serve yourself from a plate of clocal cheeses brought and left on the table. And then a nice desert. All of that for 13.9 euro. Life can be good. Service was done with only one person to cut cost so don't be in a rush but enjoy the experience. Staff assumed we knew how the system worked (we did) but if you don't, just grab a plate, serve yourself at the buffet and the rest will follow. We ate there in the evening even though opening listed here states it is only open for lunch which is clearly wrong.

Good reception, good service. Well eaten, open early in the morning... Maybe a little refreshment for the shower and it's great...
