Nilus Bar - VARENNA

We really don’t understand all the negative reviews for this place we have a wonderful meal and found the food and the service excellent. We had the bruschetta to start and the carbonara and pesto tagliatelle for mains during a very busy lunch time and it was all great. Yes, we did have to queue for around 20 minutes, however this is the case with most restaurants at lunch time in one of the most popular tourist towns. It’s to be expected! We felt the price was fair for our food and the cover charge the same as mostly every other restaurant we’ve eaten at in Italy. Our food was tasty, hot, and arrived quicker than we expected. The thing we found the most shocking was other tourists and their down right rude and antisocial behaviour. It’s peak season, at lunch time, and very busy, the staff were doing their absolute best to provide good service to everyone. We were served with a smile and patience, despite other tables rudely flapping menus at staff members and generally being impolite. The only slight negative for us was that there seemed to be a strange bathroom situation, where you have to obtain a key from a staff member to go across the street to use, so when several people wanted to use the restroom, there was a bit of a key stand off ! we just decided to use a bathroom elsewhere. On the whole, we had a lovely lunch and would return here!

Don't come here for food. Lasagna was worse than from sumermarket. My friend had gnocchi and she didn't like it either. The view is lovely though but I would only recommend to come for a drink and enjoy the view. Food is terrible.

Hands down the worse resturant i've ever been to. Firstly, service was terrible. Had to wait 20 mins just to place our order. Waved to a few staff and they didn't even give eye contact. One of the staff just nodded in my direction but did not come to take our order?? Understand if it's not in their job scope but at least tell the person in charge of ordering to attend to us? Secondly, food was so bad. We ordered the BBQ pork ribs with mash potatoes and were appalled to receive pork ribs that were all bones and had 0 meat. Furthermore, the ribs were all charred and literally nothing could be eaten. Don't understand how the resturant could think this kind of food is servable. A TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY. RUN IF U CAN.

I prezzi sono inferiori alla media di varenna, tuttavia sono un po' alti per quelli che sono i piatti offerti e, soprattutto, per la qualità della stessa. né carne o pesce, normale ma niente. e onestamente per un bicchiere d'acqua...tuttavia almeno la cameriera che ci ha servito non era esattamente bello, sarebbe un ma metto in buona posizione
