Bidrage med feedbackAs we approached 41st and Yew, my wife pointed out a welcoming storefront across the street. Feeling hungry and adventurous, we made our way over to Shota Sushi Grill, housed in a homey one-storey building in the characteristic Kerrisdale style. After briefly examining the sandwich board outside the door and finding a couple of rolls that we wanted to try, we made our way inside.
I went for the most expensive roll, the Dragon Roll, which consisted of prawn tempura, cucumber, grilled unagi, avocado, masago, mayonnaise, sesame seeds, and unagi sauce. The prawn had a good snap, and the tempura batter was appropriately thin and crispy. The unagi had a pleasantly sweet grilled flavour, and the avocado provided the finishing touch by blending all the ingredients together. The Flamed Sushi, with two pieces of seared and dressed salmon, came in an unattractive dull brown hue. Spices accentuated the flavour of the thin pieces of salmon, which had a decent smoky flavour.
Shota Sushi And Grill has always been our favourite Japanese restaurant in Kerrisdale. From the food to ambience, it's a five star restaurant.
Love this place. I eat here a lot. Love the food, especially their specialty rolls. The service is warm and friendly, and usually very quick. When the place is very busy, sometimes it can get a bit slow, however I've never waited longer than average for a restaurant at peak hours. Always a good choice for sushi.
Lunch combos cheap. Too be honest this place can be expensive if you go on weekends or dinner time. However the lunch special (special roll soup salad appetizer) is a good deal for $12.50. Usually get the scallop magma roll and the flamed sushi. For cheaper but also very good sushi I prefer Toshis.
