Gold Penny Restaurant - Vancouver

Westernized Chinese food and opens late. Service is good. Food quality is average. The ambiance isn't the best but you can't go wrong with the price.

Crispy Chow Meins. If I get a hankering for 'Westernized ' Chinese food, I go to Pennys. Their chow meins are nice and crispy. They have soft ones too, so don 't forget to specify. I love it when the sauce soaks in and it gets half crispy and half soggy.<br/ <br/ Foodrebuttal.com Recommendation: Chinese version of a family diner i.e. comfort Chinese food.

Good Value for Money. Food portions and quality is very good for the prices! Would Reccommend!

Chinese Comfort Food. My friend and I had to do a pick up nearby, so I suggested the Penny Restaurant (Gold Penny Restaurant) on East Hastings. I 've been there before, many years ago and remembered the food as good.<br/ <br/ We both ordered Combo 's for One E and F. Both were excellent, plates piled high with food. My Chop Suey was a little over cooked and mushy, but tasty none the less. My Almond Chicken was done to perfection.<br/ <br/ I just uploaded new photos of the menu here as the ones that were here were badly out of date. Prices have changed considerably since the old menus were used!<br/ <br/ It is great to see a Chinese restaurant with lots of options for single diners. I hate having to order too much food just to get a balanced meal.<br/ <br/ All in all, good food, reasonable prices, and lots of choices.<br/ <br/ UPDATE FEB. 8/ '14 It seems that my photos of the new menu have been replaced by photos of the old menu from 2009 Note that prices have increased since then!

Great neighborhood place!. Great down to earth well prepared Chinese dishes. Great price. Very sincere service, even tough sometimes the room can be too busy for just a couple of servers. We dine there and order takeout once or twice a week.
