L'Escargot - Valenciennes

Very good restaurant with a nice and classy atmosphere. Interesting menu at affordable prices. Good food. What disappointed were the waiting times between courses.... the later the evening got, the longer it took for the waiters to serve our dishes. Although we ordered coffee to finish off an otherwise wonderful meal, after waiting over 20 minutes we decided to ask for the bill and leave.... without the coffees.

Fabulous experience. Lovely setting. Had the best oysters I've ever eaten. Chateaubriand was wonderful and the bream was great. The desserts fabulous. Service was great. Wine great and good value. All in all a fantastic experience at the end of our French holiday. Would highly recommend. Only thing I'd improve would be the toilets. Hide the bleach and cleaning products! We will definitely come back on out next trip!

We were with friends and stopped in Valenciennes whilst driving back to the UK. We found L’escargot by chance and we very pleased we did. A restaurant clearly frequented by locals, we were given a table at lunchtime without fuss despite the restaurant being fairly full. Well appointed and clean environ in typical French style. Exceptional food which is well presented mainly seafood and fish but my wife had the Chateaubriand with Cognac which she was extremely pleased with saying she would happily return just to eat it again! Price wise OK. Overall, we enjoyed quality food in a relaxed, professional environment we would go out of our way to dine there again!

In the centre of town, good parking (underground just a few minutes away. French bar/brasserie style restaurant. Traditional French food (not surprisingly ! reasonably priced. Good service. Outside covered seating available. Wide range of dishes on the menu, salads, fish, meat and even pasta... English spoken.

I come to Valenciennes About five or six times a year. I always eat at this restaurant because the service is superb, the menu is very traditional, amazing selection of wines and all that not a bad price.
